Scorecard
Australia hit back after losing the Twenty20 on Thursday to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match Rose Bowl Series in Lincoln. After Alex Blackwell's 44 helped Australia to 5 for 189, the home team fell a long way short when they were dismissed for 126 in the 42nd over.
New Zealand were travelling well at 2 for 59, but they were unable to deal with the all-round pressure of Emma Sampson, Kirsten Pike and Lisa Sthalekar, who picked up two wickets each. Haidee Tiffen was stranded on 37 not out and the hosts have some work to do before the second game on Sunday.
Australia's first-wicket stand of 76 between Blackwell and Shelley Nitschke (38) was crucial and there were other useful contributions. Jodie Purves raced to 29 from 23 balls late in the innings in her first match back from injury, and her stand of 42 with Kate Blackwell (27) took the total way out of New Zealand's reach.
