Well, what a finish. That keeps the series alive and we now go to Christchurch on Saturday with England needing to win to salvage a draw . It was a day dominated by the bat and for the last third New Zealand always seemed to have enough in the tank to get home. But then we had wickets, controversy and it came down to the last ball.

"We were dead and buried going into the last six," Collingwood admitted. "I gambled on Wrighty and what a fantastic job he did." And some. You have to say that New Zealand will look on that as an opportunity missed, although Collingwood did say that he had no idea what emotions he should have.

1
Wright to Vettori, 1 run

the ball is fired in at his feet, it cannons off his boot with some edge as well into the off side, the batsmen run, a diving underarm throw misses as Mills hurls himself towards the crease ... and he makes it. We have a tie!

Two to win, one ball remaining. Could you ask for more ... here comes Wright ...

A sad end to a really wonderful innings from How. When he came in we said he was not the man for the situation ... we were utterly wrong. As for Anderson, his bowling has been poor but his fielding all day has been awesome ...

W
Wright to Vettori, OUT

full toss hit hard to mid-off, Anderson picks up and throws down the bowler's end stumps with the batsman yards short

Jamie How run out (Anderson) 139 (116b 10x4 3x6 187m) SR: 119.82
49.4
1
Wright to How, 1 run

hit hard to midwicket, Pietersen gathers cleanly and hurls at the bowler's end ... it misses by inches with the batsman nowhere to be seen

49.3
2
Wright to How, 2 runs

driven very hard to long-on, yet again Vettori takes on the arm and this time he gets home without the third umpire being needed ... not that he did England any favours last time!

Now the batsmen have a chat ...

49.2
1
Wright to Vettori, 1 run

bottom edge into the ground, it scoots to Broad at short fine leg

Another long chat ... everyone has an opinion and wants to air it. Fielders moving here, there and everywhere ... it's chaos out there!

49.1
1
Wright to How, 1 run

full, straight and hit to long-on

Now, the gamble has been that this would be sorted before the last over ... but now Collingwood has to make the call ... Mascarenhas or Shah? Nope ... it's Luke Wright. Knock me sideways ...

1
Anderson to How, 1 run

a good delivery to finish a poor day with the ball for Anderson, up in the blockhole and a single into the leg side

48.5
1
Anderson to Vettori, 1 run

same shot, right across his stumps, steered right to Sidebottom this time but still the single

48.4
2
Anderson to Vettori, 2 runs

Vettori shimmies to the off and works behind square on the leg, Sidebottom does well to slide and throw at fine leg, Mustard fumbles the return ... had he not, it would have been mighty close ...but it's all academic

Anderson moves his third man wider ...

48.3
1
Anderson to How, 1 run

not timed, long-on fields one that was aimed into the off side

48.2
1
Anderson to Vettori, 1 run

fuller and only a single to long-on this time

48.1
4
Anderson to Vettori, FOUR runs

clubbed over long-on

Ryan Sidebottom 10-0-45-1
James Anderson 9-0-76-1

Hmm .. the third umpire might have got that wrong because Vettori was home but his bat had bounced in the air and so he was actually out ... so out in-house umpire tells us

47.6
2
Sidebottom to How, 2 runs

more bottom hand, turned to the right of long-on, Vettori turns for the second without looking at Anderson whose throw is accurate but the batsman makes his ground

47.5
1
Sidebottom to Vettori, 1 run

almost a yorker, Vettori does well to drive back to the right of a diving Sidebottom, long-off mops up

Another delay as Pietersen chats with Sidebottom.

47.4
1
Sidebottom to How, 1 run

wide full toss, hit with oodles of bottom hand to long-on

47.3
1
Sidebottom to Vettori, 1 run

half volley driven to long-on but with no power

47.2
Sidebottom to Vettori, no run

classic yorker, outside off swinging into the left hander and rips through him

A long delay as the field is tinkered with

47.1
1
Sidebottom to How, 1 run

full and outside off stump, guided with an open face to deepish cover

Sidebottom up for his last over. 23 off 18 ...

Finally Anderson finds his rhythm ... late but better so than never for those who like tight finishes.

46.6
1
Anderson to How, 1 run

again full and swinging in, driven to long-off

46.5
Anderson to How, no run

inswinging full toss, hit hard back at Anderson who dives to his right and makes a good save
