They were undone by Mahmudullah, the medium-pacer, and Bangladesh's slow left-arm spinner, Manjural Islam, each of whom took three wickets to stifle England's progress. Only Matt Prior, with a bludgeoning 51 and Will Jefferson (45) contributed scores of note.
Chasing 195 Bangladesh lost Mehrab Hossain cheaply but were steadied by Jahurul Islam (41) and Nazimuddin (42). Tim Bresnan struck twice, reducing the home side to 182 for 5, but an unbeaten 38 from Manjural Islam Rana edged Bangladesh home with five overs to spare.
