2nd INNINGS

4:00pm Vinay collects the Irani Cup and it sparks off wild celebrations in the Karnataka camp. Another trophy added to the Karnataka cabinet and they complete a second treble. Karthik Krishnaswamy's report is on its way. Until next time, this is Deivarayan Muthu stating the obvious: Karnataka are simply unstoppable. Many thanks Chandan. Ciao ciao.

Vinay Kumar, the history-making Karnataka captain: All credit goes to the boys. Dedication and desire [keys to Karnataka's success]. Fourth innings will be difficult here, the cracks got wider. We had the bowling attack. We knew 300-plus runs would be difficult for them. We need to ask our manager [responding to where the party would take place] . I want to thank the crowd and the ground staff.

Manoj Tiwary, RoI captain: I thought if we had bowled them out for less than 250, we could have chased it down. In the batting department, we did not click as a unit. The Karnataka bowlers bowled really well. We backed our boys to do well but we did not have luck. Full credit to them. Good luck to them. Aaron bowled brilliantly in the first innings, Shardul [Thakur] and Pragyan [Ojha] also bowled well. There were a lot of ball changes. It needs to be seen. Apart from that, the bowlers did the job.

Manish Pandey, Man of the Match: I was a little lucky, but it finally paid off. Irani hundred matters a lot, the season was very good. I did not convert starts early on but I am happy to finish it in this manner. 400 was a big lead for us. That made the difference.

Presentation time:

Vaidya chimes in: "They didn't lose a single game during the Vijay Hazare either. Absolute dominance this season!"

3:40 pm The Karnataka players assemble together and salute the crowd. Vinay Kumar is pumped and why not! His team has been incredible. They conceded a slender 20-run lead, but Manish Pandey struck a brisk century to set a target of 403. Karnataka were also well-served by fifties from Samarth and Karun Nair. Mithun then ripped through the RoI top-order, reducing them to 2 for 2 and then 8 for 3. Tiwary, Jiwanjot and Jadhav resisted briefly, but it was only a matter of time before Karnataka wrapped up a 246-run victory. There was no hat-trick from Shreyas Gopal this time, but he was instrumental in cleaning up the lower-order.

Karnataka become only the second state team to bag back-to-back Irani Cups.

Aravind to Aaron, OUT

Karnataka retain the Irani Cup. Manish Pandey manages to pluck out a stump as a souvenir after running out Aaron. Uthappa collects a stump as well. J Arunkumar and Mansur Ali Khan come out and join the frenzy. Bouncer on the leg stump, Aaron gets into a tangle as he aims to fend it in front of square on the leg side. There is a brief communication breakdown - Aaron wants a single and sets off. Ojha is too late and the fielder (Agarwal) passes the ball to Manish, who tips the bails off to catch Ojha short. He is utterly disappointed and that delivers the coup de grace on RoI. The Karnataka juggernaut, though, rumbles on - the unbeaten streak has been extended to 29
