So Sri Lanka remain unbeaten in the tournament, but a nine-run victory is a lot closer than many expected this match would be. Ireland bowled and fielded extremely well and while Niall O'Brien was at the crease they had a real chance in the chase. But, once again, Sri Lanka's spin twins of Murali and Mendis proved the key as they stifled the middle order. Ireland have one game left in the Super Eights against Pakistan while Sri Lanka are well placed for the semi-finals.

"We bowled and fielded well but couldn't quite pull through," says William Porterfield. "We are learning every game and hopefully we can improve a bit more tomorrow [against Pakistan]."

"We had to win, the way Mahela batted was brilliant," says Kumar Sangakkara, "then the bowling was spot on, but we probably lacked a bit of intensity."

The Man of the Match is Mahela Jaywardene for his 73 off 58 balls and that wraps up the first game of the day. Will and myself are off for a quick break and will be back shortly to bring you England against India with both sides desperate for a win. See you shortly.

low full toss, West gives himself room and edges down to third man

Sri Lanka are going to win this game, but they'll know they have been in a contest and Ireland can take huge credit from pushing one of the favourites so close

Malinga to Cusack, 2 runs

what a delivery, so nearly a hat-trick as Malinga spears in a toe-crushing leg-stump yorker and somehow Cusack manages to get some bat on it...he couldn't really have bowled a better delivery

Sri Lanka have been tested in this match, but their bowling quality is going to win the day. However, it's been a brave show from Ireland
