A round-up of the Faysal Bank One-Day Cup matches on March 7, 2013

Group A

Multan Tigers beat Quetta Bears by seven wickets in Hyderabad to secure top spot in Group A. After Quetta elected to bat, opener Bismillah Khan fell for a golden duck. Nasir Khan and Ali Asad, who top scored with 81, staged a recovery with a 63-run stand, but once both batsmen fell, Quetta struggled to 170 for 9. Multan's Kashif Naved had the best figures with 3 for 19.
Multan strung regular partnerships together, thanks to contributions from Zeeshan Ashraf (43), Sohaib Maqsood (48) and Saeed Anwar jnr (48 not out). Ultimately Anwar and Rameez Alam took the team home in the 30th over.
An unbeaten, quickfire century from Mohammad Ayub led Sialkot Stallions to a 114-run victory over Lahore Eagles in Karachi. Sialkot elected to bat and started strongly, with the openers putting on 92. Fifties from Yasir Aziz and Mansoor Ajmad ensured the innings had momentum. Ayub's 102 off 77 helped push Sialkot to an imposing total of 322 for 5 at the completion of their 50 overs.
Lahore Eagles' top four were unable to put up substantial contributions as the Sialkot bowlers made early inroads, with the team at one point 63 for 4. Adnan Akmal, with an unbeaten 85, was the only one who provided some resistance, as the team folded for 208 in the 46th over.
Hyderabad Hawks chased down Karachi Dolphins' total, to win by six wickets in Ghari Khuda Bakhsh, and climb up to the top of Group A. Karachi Dolphins elected to bat, but lost wickets at crucial intervals throughout their innings. Only Daniyal Ahsan offered some resistance with his unbeaten 66, as the team stuttered to 196 for 9. Rehan Riaz claimed the best figures of 3 for 33.
Hyderabad, despite losing three early wickets, clinched the win through contributions from opener Azeem Ghumman (36), Rizwan Ahmed (52) and Faisal Athar, who finished unbeaten on 61.

Group B

An attacking century from opener Nawaz Ahmed, backed up by seamer Imran Khan's six-wicket haul, took Peshawar Panthers to a convincing six-wicket victory over Faisalabad Wolves in Islamabad. Nawaz hit 22 fours and three sixes in his career-best 167, to single-handedly steer his team past Faisalabad's total of 276 in 43 overs.
Faisalabad's innings revolved around contributions from the middle order: Ali Waqas (52), Hasan Mahmood (54) and Zeeshan Butt (67), helped repair the innings after they were reduced to 16 for 2. The lower order, however, collapsed quickly, with Imran Khan taking a career-best 6 for 48.
A fighting batting performance from Islamabad Leopards wasn't enough to overhaul a daunting target of 319; they lost by 37 runs to Karachi Zebras, who secured the top spot in their group in Mirpur.
Imad Wasim and Babar Azam, with half-centuries, and Fahad Iqbal and Zohaib Ahmed, with knocks of 44 and 31, tried to keep Islamabad in the hunt, but regular wickets and a mounting required run-rate forced an eventual defeat.
Karachi Zebras' strong total was built on a 175-run second-wicket stand between Khurram Manzoor, who scored 114, and Akbar-ur-Rehman, who scored 85. Their captain Faisal Iqbal also chipped in with a vital half-century, as they finished on 318 for 6.
A collective effort from Lahore Lions helped them to a 73-run victory over Rawalpindi Rams in Rawalpindi. After choosing to bat, Lahore Lions built their innings with steady batting. Although no one scored a century, decent contributions from most of the top-order batsmen gave them a solid base. Fahad-ul-Haq, who top-scored with a run-a-ball 83, and Usman Salahuddin, who scored 56, played vital knocks.
Chasing 278, Rawalpindi were reduced to 12 for 2 early on, and couldn't recover sufficiently. Umar Amin and Umar Waheed, with an 88-run stand for the fourth wicket, gave them a chance, but the rest of the batting couldn't contribute anything substantial. In the end, they were dismissed for 204 in 43.4 overs.
