Scorecard and ball-by-ball details
Rapid half-centuries from openers Sumit Ghadigaonkar and Kevin Almeida helped Rizvi College Mumbai crush Marwari College Ranchi in the quarter-final of the Red Bull Campus Cricket tournament in Chandigarh. The relentless attack from the Rizvi openers meant the team chased down the 117-run target in the 11th over with both batsmen staying unbeaten.
Ghadigaonkar set the scene with a straight six off the second ball of the innings and repeated the shot in the second over to fetch six more. Around those two big hits, he smashed five fours to springboard Rizvi to 35 for 0 at the end of four overs. Almeida, who was on 3 at that stage, took over the scoring from the fifth over onwards. He hit two sixes and a four in the fifth over, then hit three fours and two sixes in the sixth to overtake his partner. Almeida was the first to reach his half-century, off 25 balls, with yet another six. Ghadigaonkar followed suit with three boundaries in the 11th over, the third of which brought up the team's win.
Marwari College, in contrast, put on an insipid batting display after winning the toss. Apart from captain Vinay Singh and Rishi Mansukhani, none of the batsmen were able to put up a resistance against Rizvi's bowlers. Aditya Dhumal bowled a stifling spell of 4-0-13-3 while other bowlers kept the lid on scoring too. Marwari hobbled to 116 in 20 overs but it proved to be too low for the Rizvi batting line-up.
