And that wraps up the match and the year, for England. They'll be back out to India for five ODIs in January, though India won't be able to rest, as Pakistan are rocking up almost immediately to fill the gap. Thanks for your comments and your company, it's been a topsy-turvy 2012 - from Alex and me, Merry Christmas and we'll see you again in a couple of weeks. Cheerio!

10.55pm: Back out we go for the presentations... Eoin Morgan is named Man of the Match. There's a polite ripple from the crowd, which becomes a bit more lively when Yuvraj Singh is named Man of the Series: "I tried to do it for the team, bowl a few overs, vary my pace and try to confuse them. It's tough to bowl with the dew, the ball comes quicker on to the bat and runs away. Morgan is a great finisher for England... I've been batting well, hitting the ball well, so that's good for me."

England captain, Morgan: "It was a hell of a game of cricket, a fantastic match and a great pitch for a game of Twenty20. The stats suggest, particularly at this stadium, that the chasing side usually wins and we backed ourselves to do that. It was a good job because we nearly fell short! Fielding was outstanding, we try to save 10-15 runs each time and today we were amazing. It was great, one of the best crowd atmospheres I've ever played in, and we showed great promise for the future."

India captain, MS Dhoni: "The dew really does change the course of the game but we didn't start very well, we were a fraction short. There was something there for the fast bowlers but they were cut and pulled early on. We came back well but couldn't keep it going. We could have got another 10-12 runs at the end of our innings too but overall is was a good performance. The fast bowlers got good experience and exposure to international cricket. They are good prospects for us but we need to back them."

10.45pm: The Wankhede has gone deathly quiet. Morgan ends on 49 not out, a captain's knock and a captain's finish, securing England their record chase in T20 internationals. I did not see that coming, as my innings handover flagged up ... It's not the first time I've been wrong, or the last, I'm sure. India paid the price for some sloppy work in the field again, they were very poor in the first half of the England innings - though, ironically, if Gambhir had put down Patel at the end, they probably would have won, as Buttler's cameo helped put the match on a silver plate for Morgan. It was a tough night for quick bowlers and with combined figures of 1 for 86 from their eight overs, Awana and Dinda really suffered... However you add it up, this is quite a performance from a young England side, who'll be rightly chuffed to have tied the series. The ODIs in January could be really interesting now.

Dinda to Morgan, SIX runs

and Morgan smashes it straight back over Dinda's head for six! You can't set a field for that! It was full, searching for the yorker, but ended up being a half volley in Morgan's hitting arc and he made no mistake, kabooming the ball over the rope with a free-flowing swing of the arms - and that means England win by six wickets to tie the T20 series 1-1

Two to tie (which would bring a super over), three to win. India just want a dot or a single... Here we go. And Dinda loses his footing as he arrives at the crease! We'll have to start again... And now India are having an almighty conflab about setting the field, Dhoni, Raina, Yuvraj all involved. Fine leg is up, looks like there's a gap at deep cover...

1b
Dinda to Buttler, 1 bye

full and very wide, again he goes right across, misses with the scoop but Morgan has already set off and Dhoni's throw misses!

A boundary or a couple of twos all England need now...

19.4
2
Dinda to Buttler, 2 runs

full and wide, Buttler shuffles across and tries the ramp, he gets it away fine off the toe but R Ashwin scuttles round to cut it off at third man, just two the damage

Another single for England... Dinda is halfway to job done

19.3
1
Dinda to Morgan, 1 run

leg-stump line, slightly full and Morgan hits across the line, the ball flies flat towards deep midwicket

19.2
1
Dinda to Buttler, 1 run

fullish, outside the line of off, Buttler elects to go back again and thrash the ball out towards long-off for another single

And so hard did he swing, and so low off the bat did it come, Morgan has cracked the toe and needs a replacement

19.1
1
Dinda to Morgan, 1 run

full and outside off, Morgan clears his front foot but can only shovel it towards long-on for a single

So, here we go, Dinda the bowler. He's got to be dealing in yorkers...

My word... India should have stuck with Patel. England need nine from the final over and they've got the Big Mo running with them

18.6
6
Awana to Buttler, SIX runs

oh, that's corked it, Buttler shifts back in the crease and mullers a length ball straight back down the ground, it goes flat and hard and all the way!

18.5
1
Awana to Morgan, 1 run

pitched up outside off, drilled back past the bowler and mid-off does terrifically to stop it and keep them to one

18.4
1
Awana to Buttler, 1 run

short this time, steps back and pulls through mid-on, doesn't connect cleanly

18.3
4
Awana to Buttler, FOUR runs

full and wide, Buttler had stepped away but that's thumped low through extra-cover, such power from Buttler, using his wrists to drill the ball through the infield even though he wasn't well placed

18.2
1
Awana to Morgan, 1 run

length ball, again it's in Morgan's slot but he doesn't get hold of this one and pulls flat to deep midwicket, no chance of a second either

"Patel getting out is actually bad for India as he was doing a very nice job for them but now the dangerous Buttler is here." You're right, Abdul Ahad, but Morgan is the key now

18.1
1
Awana to Buttler, 1 run

banged in short, at the man, played on the back foot short on the off side and they hustle a single to get Morgan back on strike

It is going to be Awana bowling the penultimate over...

Dinda to Morgan, SIX runs

length ball and that's a home run, Morgan baseball-batting the ball flat over deep midwicket! A trademark power slog across the line and it keeps England in the hunt

That wicket brings in Jos Buttler... and England might not mind too much, given his impish skills

17.5
W
Dinda to Patel, OUT

Patel gets under it, this hasn't got the legs and drops safely into Gambhir's mitts at midwicket! There was a bit too much on it for Patel to pull cleanly, the ball came off the splice and looped gently up towards the edge of the circle

Samit Patel c Gambhir b Dinda 9 (10b 1x4 0x6 17m) SR: 90
17.4
1
Dinda to Morgan, 1 run

dug in and pushed across, played on the back foot into the ground for a single down to long-off

17.3
2
Dinda to Morgan, 2 runs

length ball, on the body, Morgan works it past midwicket for a couple

Protection brought into the off side, just a couple of fielders to leg

17.2
4
Dinda to Morgan, FOUR runs

short and wide, Morgan throws the bat at this and uses the pace to steer it over backward point, it beats the fielder and that's four

17.1
1
Dinda to Patel, 1 run

short of a length and outside the line of off, Patel happy to steer one to third man and get Morgan on strike

Dinda it is, with two overs left in his allocation and the Death on his shoulder...

Chawla held his nerve after that boundary off the first ball... The balance is tipping back towards India, though Dhoni will now have to rely on his quicks, or spring a surprise

16.6
1
Chawla to Patel, 1 run

tossed up, wide of the stumps, Patel frees the arms but this time his drive finds wide long-off for another single

16.5
Chawla to Patel, no run

quicker legbreak slides on outside off, Patel swipes and misses
