19.10 Okay, lets clear the air. People have misread the post at 18.40. First of all, IF this match is abandoned Pakistan are through.

This is with reference to my earlier comment: "So that means for India to go on they will have to beat West Indies, Pakistan will have to beat Australia, and even then India's net run rate will have to be good for them."

Many fans appear to have misread this statement, it clearly states For India to go on. The criteria listed out in that comment purely applies to India and what they need to do to go through to the next stage if this match gets abandoned.

Lets get this clear - Pakistan are currently on 4 points, Australia on 2 and India nil. Now lets consider the situation if this match gets abandoned and the two teams split points. India will have one point, and Australia 3.

In the next game, if Australia beat Pakistan, then the situation is straightforward. Australia will move to 5, Pakistan will stay on 4 and India will be knocked out, because even if they beat West Indies, they'll only remain on 3.

If Australia lose to Pakistan, and India beat West Indies, then it's a fight between India and Australia to go through to the semis. Australia will then remain on 3 points, India will also have 3 and the team with the better net run-rate goes through.

19.05 The cut off time is 21.25. It is raining heavily. There are huge puddles in the ground and it doesn't look like any match will happen today.

18.55 Hundreds of emails about the post at 18.40. People are getting confused with the line "For Australia, a win or a split point will take them through." That line does not refer to this match. It refers to their next game against Pakistan. NOT this match. Pakistan have already beaten West Indies. If Australia beat Pakistan, then both those teams are through.

18.50 Here's the deal - I will post a notice as soon as it stops raining or if the match is called off. As of now it is still raining in Jo'burg.

For Australia, a win or a split point will take them through. Even if they lose they can make it on net run rate. If Australia win their next game, India are virtually out.

18.35 Keith Lane, one of Cricinfo's South African residents, says it is hard to predict even a 20 overs game as it is bucketing down.

18.30 Tony Lewis, of Duckworth and Lewis, has emailed giving us the correct permutation. A newer version of the software was implemented for this tournament, which Tony has. Per the new WinCODA2 software being used by Tony and the scorers in South Africa, India's target will be 266 in 42 overs, and 166 for 20 overs. Thanks for that Tony. Appreciated. And no, this system apparently does not take into consideration Powerplays.

18.15 Still raining and the covers are still on. Rather heavy. Lots of lightning. There are many emails asking how India's target will be 263 in 42 overs. Let me try and clarify. This was computed via a D/L software. It is accurate. Australia have plenty of wickets in hand, so the system assumes they could have made the last seven count. Had they been 234 for 8 the target would have been 238. That is how the program works.

17.55 If Australia's innings ends now, India's target in 42 overs is 263. If its reduced to 20 overs then 153. I have asked our people at the ground for further updates about the rain. Stay tuned, be patient.
