New Zealand defy expectations and make it to the finals. Daniel Vettori showed his worth with bat and ball again, and Grant Elliott shrugged off a hand injury to turn in a second match-winning performance. Pakistan's fielding will need to improve, that sitter which Younis put down isn't going to be forgotten soon, and they missed plenty of direct hits, one of which would have been enough to turn the game. Ultimately, though, it will be the batting that will have to take the blame, 233 was just not good enough on a pitch with nothing in it for the bowlers.

The best thing for Pakistan in this tournament has been Umar Akmal's batting, his mature approach against the West Indies and today's composed innings. And Mohammad Aamer confirms he's one of the brightest talents around.

Presentation ceremony

Younis Khan: "I think we were 20-25 runs short. At one stage, we looked like making 250, all the time we are struggling in the Powerplays and we collapsed.

"The plan was that someone from the top four should stay, it was a good pitch to bat, if you score 250, it would have been very good.

"If I take that catch, maybe things may have changed, but in sports this is not the first time."

"We won the World Twenty20 and reached the semi-finals here. We are improving day by day."

Vettori: "It all started with the way we bowled. 230 was a score we fancied we could chase. We have not been a consistent side, but we have managed to do that here."

"We were always thinking of making it 60 off 60, we didn't quite get there but with the Powerplays, it makes such a difference. Elliott was great against Gul in that over which tool the game away from them."

Vettori is also the Man of the Match for his all-round efforts.

Whew, a fantastic win for New Zealand, they take on their neighbours Australia on Monday. Do join us then, it's me Siddarth Ravindran saying goodbye. Thanks for all the mails, see you Monday.
