END OF OVER:

8.15pm: Thanks for sticking around, we got a decent crack in the end. Gnasher's report is bubbling up, we'll be back for more fun and games at The Oval tomorrow. From Alex, Devashish and myself, g'night and good luck.

8.10pm: Time for the speeches. New Zealand captain, Brendon McCullum: "Kane and Corey gave us a chance but it wasn't until they got going and in the end we were short. It's one of those things [dropping catches], Nathan is normally very good. The run rate has kept us going, it'll be hard to cheer for Australia but if it keeps us in the tournament, then good."

England captain and Man of the Match, Alastair Cook: "It was quite a stressful day, especially with those last few overs. We thought we were above the rate but Anderson and Williamson took it on, luckily we got over the line. We were very good in the field today and I thought we were good with the bat, maybe 10 runs short. We're happy to be in the semi-final, that was a good performance. We're two games away now. Graeme's got a calf injury but we're very lucky to have James Tredwell to step in."

8pm: At one stage this game looked like one for Davey Jones' locker but England managed to dredge it up from the depths and secure a win that takes them through, regardless of what else happens in Group A. The three other teams are still alive - though New Zealand have made it very difficult for Australia, by keeping their net run rate in decent shape. England are likely to win the group, and therefore play Group B runners-up South Africa, unless Sri Lanka win by a big margin.

W
Anderson to McCullum, OUT, line and length, swings and nicks off, Anderson finishes with a wicket! Too good for McCullum and just too much to do for New Zealand - a 10-run win means England are through to the semi-finals

N-Mac's interested in a no-ball, too, but he'll not get one

23.5
6
Anderson to McCullum, SIX runs, full toss from Anderson, dipping just under waist height as McCullum crunches it way back straight back down the ground for six!
23.5
1w
Anderson to McCullum, 1 wide, bouncer, over the batsman - called on height
23.4
0
Anderson to McCullum, no run, length ball, spots him moving outside off again and gets this right over the tramline as McCullum swings and misses

New Zealand need three sixes or snookers from here...

23.3
0
Anderson to McCullum, no run, get this one right up to the stumps again, outside off and McCullum again misses the yorker

These are useful runs, given NRR could still decide qualification from Group A

23.2
4
Anderson to McCullum, FOUR runs, full toss on leg stump, doesn't get the yorker right this time and McCullum bunts it for four to deep square leg
