END OF OVER:
35 | 9 Runs 1 Wkt | NZ: 153/10

  • SL Malinga5-0-38-1
  • BAW Mendis6-0-24-2

That's that then from the Wankhede. Here's Sahil Dutta's bulletin on how things panned out today. We are back tomorrow for a cracking Saturday, do join us for SA v Ban and Pak v Aus. On behalf of Sriram Veera and the rest of the gang, this is Nitin Sundar signing off. Cheers!

Presentations time

Sangakkara is Man of the Match: "It was quite hot there, we practiced two days in the heat, took a toll but we enjoyed it. When we won the toss, we knew the first 10-15 overs were going to be difficult, so we just rotated the strike and kept wickets for the end. There was more dew than we expected, something to keep in mind, but there is a long way to go before we can think of coming back here. We know we are well on our way, Murali the legend, bowling on one leg, bowled so well. We have a few days before the next game, and we hope he will be fully fit for the QFs. We want to make sure he enjoys himself, and we want him to bowl and take wickets."

Taylor: "We came with hopes of taking momentum into the QFs, but the way Kulasekara ... umm... err.., Kumar Sangakkara, played took us out of the game. We thought the 3rd umpire decision was out, but it wasn't and we had to get on with it. We were with the rate the whole way, but Murali bowled really well and we kept losing wickets. The injured guys are getting better everyday and hopefully will be around for the next game."

Here's the Points table then. SL and Aus are tied on 9 points, but Aus have a game in hand. If Pakistan win tomorrow, they can lead the table. NZ's NRR is +1.135, still well ahead of Pakistan's which is +0.729. NZ and Pak are tied on points with 8.

Malinga to Bennett, OUT, oh yes. Malinga has straightened off stump with a scorcher than landed near the toes and thundered past Bennett's pointless poke. All over. The Lions have mauled the Kiwis today. This is a thumping win. And to think SL under-achieved with the bat, and had to contend with dew while bowling. Black Caps down.

Yorker now?

Malinga to Bennett, no run, no yorker yet. He bowls a mean bouncer and Bennett ducks under the flak as it whizzes by

Malinga to Oram, 1 run, slow offcutter on middle, Oram backs away again and waits for it to come before bunting into the covers for one

Malinga to Oram, no run, Oram is walking all around the crease, Malinga follows him with a full yorker and Oram barely gets the feet out of the way. Somehow, that missed leg stump

Malinga to Oram, FOUR runs, Oram's smashed another four down the ground. Another over-pitched ball on leg stump, he clears the legs and bangs it back straight. That's the Oram we know.

Malinga to Oram, FOUR runs, Oram seems to have left the hitting for a little too late. Over-pitched on leg stump, he hangs back, opens up the leg side by moving the front foot away and swats it away past mid on.

A bit of a farce to call this a Batting Powerplay. NZ have taken it. Better now than never. Malinga comes on and he'll be desperate to get a wicket (as am I, since he's my Fantasy captain :-()
