34.3 no 200 for Moeen! He has slogged this straight into the hands of the lone fielder at deep midwicket. That slow pace from Majid, it did play some part there because Moeen wasn't able to swing is bat on the cue. Had to wait an extra moment and that meant he didn't get the power behind it. Excellent innings though. 201/2
30.1 he is gone, he has given it away really! Goes for the big booming drive off this fuller delivery but fails to keep it down.. Straight into the hands of Coetzer at cover. He may have thrown away the chance to improve his strike rate but this opening stand has set up the perfect platform for his team. 172/1

35.1 And there is another wicket! Ballance's poor run continues as he chops this down on to his stumps. He wanted to run it down to third man but the lack of pace messed up his timing. Reward for Evans 203/3
36.1 and another one! Root follows the rest. This is an excellent delivery at this juncture of the innings. Pitches on a length just outside off and straightens just a touch to kiss the outside edge. Not much Root could have done about that really. Excellent stuff. 203/4
49.1 captain takes out the captain! Morgan looked to slog across the line but got a big top edge. Mommsen, at midwicket, had to backpedal to get under it. He keeps his eyes on the swirler and gets under it comfortably 300/7
44.5 superb work by Cross behind the stumps! Taylor jumped out of the crease and probably the bowler pushed it full and wide. It's an excellent take - a half-volley just inside the wide marker - then he follows it up with some quick glovework to take the bails off. England continue to struggle for late momentum. That could have been called a wide but the umpire probably felt generous. 252/5
48.4 smashed straight into the hands of long off! He moved away to the leg side, the bowler pushes it wide outside off, which means Buttler doesn't get it off the meat of the bat. He could have gone over cover with that but chose to go straight 297/6
49.2 another ball, another top edge, another catch by Mommsen! He runs to his right from extra cover towards mid-off and takes another steepler. Same finish too. Falling backwards as he completed that 300/8

26.3 can you keep Moeen away from wickets, he gets the big man - Coetzer! The batsman came down the ground to take it on the full but got a top edge while trying to loft it, and an easy peasy catch for Woakes at long on 122/5
2.5 one down, Anderson strikes! MacLeod came down and made room to attack the outswinger that landed outside off on just short of length, got a thick upper edge and landed safely in the keeper's hands 17/1
10.1 strikes first ball! Pitched it up outside off with some room and outswing, Coleman bent down and middled that drive but handed it straight to Eoin Morgan at short cover, he had to jump to catch it in front of his face. Coleman is unhappy with himself for playing that shot 47/2
11.4 Finn also strikes in his first over, gets the big wicket of Machan! It was short of outside off and moving away with the angle, Machan moved across a bit and poked outside off to edge it to Buttler 54/3
25.1 Joe Root has struck! Mommsen was sweeping too many of those, he did it again and this time got a top edge to Broad at deep backward square leg. A strong stand has been broken 114/4
28.3 one more from Moeen, one more catch for Morgan! He came down the track, taking it on the full in front of middle stump and flicked it on the leg side, Morgan taking a sharp catch at midwicket 128/6
37.1 good short ball and it gets him a wicket! Finn pitched it just outside off, leaving Cross in two minds whether to leave or play. He left it too late and the ball flew towards slip after going off the face of the bat. Good catch by Root at first slip 160/8
33.5 there's an edge on this one too, an outside edge and he gets his second wicket! It was a back of length delivery outside off, Davey pushed at it without much footwork and got a faint outside edge for Buttler 150/7
42.2 tries another pull, gets a top edge and he's taken at fine leg, England have won! Woakes banged in another short ball, Haq could not get on top of it and got only a top edge. Easy catch for Ballance 184/10
41.6 gets an edge, gets a wicket! Length delivery outside the off stump, making Evans drive and a thick edge goes to Buttler who completes a good, low catch to his right 184/9

Match Notes

  • 'Your captain's Irish'

It might have been a bit of a no-contest but the fun fans and excellent weather made up for it

  • England's cobwebs and shackles are still on

They won the game. They found some form. If you're judging England on the scoreboard, it was above par, but still well below par

  • Moeen fights a lone battle

While he stroked his way to a fluent and majestic hundred, his team-mates struggled to find the boundaries, something that is very likely to cost England in their upcoming games

  • Scotland defeated by lack of experience

What this game showed us is that Scotland have the talent to compete with England. They were not blown away; they were defeated by their lack of exposure to the circumstances

  • Morgan backs Bell's cautious approach

England's captain Eoin Morgan expressed support for Ian Bell's understated role in a Woirld Cup record opening stand with Moeen Ali as England saw off Scotland comfortably in Christchurch
