Scorecard
New South Wales extended their lead at the top of the table to 10 points after beating Queensland by 133 runs at the Olympic Park Oval in Sydney. Needing to bat out the final day to save the match, Queensland were in with a chance at 3 for 206, having negotiated 44.1 overs of the last day. Doug Bollinger, who was axed from Australia's Test squad after the second Ashes Test, sparked Queensland's collapse with the wicket of set batsman Wade Townsend, who had made 80. Queensland then went on to lose four wickets for 33 runs and were eventually bowled out for 280, 12.1 overs after tea.
Craig Philipson was out soon after Townsend, trapped lbw by Nathan Hauritz, who has also been left out of Australia's Ashes plans so far. Three overs later, left-arm spinner Steve O'Keefe had Chris Simpson caught behind and bowled Cameron Boyce within three deliveries, to leave Queensland reeling at 7 for 239. Hauritz and Bollinger finished with three wickets each for the innings, giving Bollinger six for the match.
Queensland started the day poorly, losing overnight batsman Ryan Broad to Stuart Clark in the third over of the morning. Broad and Townsend had added 71 for the opening wicket on the third day, but only added four to the partnership on Tuesday. Doug Bollinger bowled Andre Robinson for 15 to leave Queensland on 2 for 105, before Chris Lynn put on 66 with Townsend for the third wicket to give his team some hope. Lynn was out caught behind off Clark and ten overs later the collapse started.
