Victoria storm into final with massive win

Victoria secured a place in the Sheffield Shield final with a massive 400-run win against Tasmania in Alice Springs. After setting them a target of 535, Victoria skittled Tasmania for 134 with a five-for from Fawad Ahmed.

Chasing a gigantic target was going to be tough but Tasmania collapsed once the opening stand of 26 was broken. Five batsmen scored in double digits, Tim Paine top-scoring with 32, as Jon Holland troubled the top order and Fawad ran through the middle and lower order to finish with 5 for 32 to become the tournament's leading wicket-taker. Scott Boland also chipped in with two wickets and Peter Siddle picked up one. Wicketkeeper Matthew Wade took three catches and stumped opener Dom Michael.

Earlier, Victoria started the day on 1 for 47 with Chris Rogers and Marcus Stoinis going past 50. Rogers retired hurt for 69 at the score of 130 and limped off the field because of what was later diagnosed as glute tightness. He was cleared of a serious injury and is expected to be fit for the final starting on March 21.

Stoinis was bowled by Clive Rose for 62 and Victoria declared on 2 for 230 after a quick and unbeaten partnership of 55 in under ten overs between David Hussey (47 off 58) and Daniel Christian (37 off 35) to set a dominating target.
