Stars overcome Gayle blitz to reach semis

It took eight rounds across 31 days for Chris Gayle to deliver and yet, incredibly, Sydney Thunder lost again to gift the Melbourne Stars a semi-final berth

Match Centre

That is just an incredible capitulation from the Thunder to gift the Stars a victory and a berth in the semi finals. Credit to the Stars bowlers, but it was some terrible shots that cost the Thunder when they were in a comfortable position.

Gayle finally got going in the tournament but it wasn't enough as the hosts' pace attack ripped through the Thunder's middle order.

Gayle has been named Man of the Match for his 2 for 5 with the ball and 65 with the bat, but it will be little consolation for the Thunder as they remain winless to finish the season.
