straight six to wrap things up! Kohli gives the charge and sends it whistling over the sight screen and over the second tier, classic shot
MI vs RCB, 54th match at Mumbai, May 09 2012, Indian Premier League
RCB won by 9 wickets (with 12 balls remaining)
Presentation time:
Virat Kohli: "To beat them at home is a good feeling for us. I wasn't feeling too great when I was batting in the previous matches but my team-mates backed me."
Harbhajan: "We're not disappointed. We havve four games. RCB won a good toss, we were 15-20 runs short. If we had taken Gayle's we don't know what would have happened. We are a way better side than this."
Man of the Match Gayle gets the Orange Cap: "(The room for trophies) is in the process of being built! Good team effort today. We knew we had to see off Malinga. We were expecting two overs up front from him but he bowled three. Haven't hit the gym in the last few days. I will now."
Gym? Imagine how much more destructive he would be if he worked on those forearm exercises! He only needs to work on his running though.
That's it for today. Read the report here. Two games tomorrow. Cheers!
End of match: So RCB jump from 7th to 4th after this comprehensive win. It was a great toss to win in the end. The Bangalore bowlers silenced the Mumbai batsmen on a pitch which offered the seamers some bite. A target of 142 wasn't going to test a rampaging Gayle. De Villiers wasn't even required. We hope Gayle remains as destructive when he wears the maroon soon.
Speaking of colours, Gayle today took the Orange Cap.
Bala: "Excellent strategy this from RCB. Gayle settles in well before he takes off against the lesser bowlers in the middle overs where most of the teams are struggling to score."
Salim: "You cant blame Franklin for not perfoming well.He is not a professional opener. Its the management's fault or i must say the coaches are wrong...if sachin is not the captain..at least he should recommend bhajji to atleast play a genuine opener with him."
punched to the covers
bowls it full and he works it to the on side
it was a flat delivery but still good enough for Gayle, makes room and shovels it over wide long-on and it's the 500th six of the tournament, nearly dented the Volkswagen!
flatter delivery and worked to square leg
stays back and thumps it to long-on
Rahul: "Gibbs is suffering an injury that is why he is not in the Mumbai XI." Probably Blizzard then.
stays at the crease and stabs it down to mid-off
short and pulled and deep midwicket picks it up
angles it on the pads and easily done to long-on
No last minute thriller today, surely
fullish on the stumps and worked down to long-on
fires it on the pads and squirted to fine leg
full on the stumps and squeezed out to long-off
It's the Time Out
Just to add to that earlier comment. I think it's high time Mumbai drop Franklin. He made just 1 and hasn't bowled today. They have to bring in Gibbs.
fired in full outside off and he hammers it across the line to long-on
squirts out a yorker and he scampers a quick single, Malinga runs across to pick up and throw
banged in short and he pulled it along the ground to deep square leg
yorker length outside off and squeezed out to the off side
Can Malinga create magic in these four balls?
bowls it full and quick and he wristily flicks it wide of square leg
bowls a wide down the leg side, tries to hammer it to the leg side
take cover! Tossed up outside off and Gayle bends his knee and scoops it high and down to the second tier over the sightscreen, You can't snooze away when he's batting
