I had hoped for a close game at the start of it and that's exactly what we have got. With Chennai. it's usually that way! So that's it then, will be back for tomorrow's game too. Suneer Chowdhary signing off for the evening, ciao!

------------------

Abhi: "Hey. That delivery on 19.3 was a wide by the umpire! Shouldnt dhoni be on 63* and not 67*?" That came off Dhoni's bat, he signalled it to the ump.

Rachit: "@Mehr: dont forget dropping of an in-form Morne Morkel by DD against CSK for Play-offs, CSK make captains dearly pay for those, don't they? PS: this can be my 50th comment for the day which goes unpublished."

Presentation

Cameron White: Was a good total in the end, bit poor in the first six overs but did well in the last five. The loss was disappointing, to get ourselves in this position and lose was bad too. There were a few areas we were off, which we need to improve for the game day after tomorrow. You need to learn from your mistakes and make better players.

MS Dhoni, who is also the man of the match: I think we started off well with the ball but gave away too many runs in the death. Chasing 160 becomes difficult, the bowlers did not do well. Got off to a good start with the bat but slowed down in the middle and lost wickets. Leggies bowled well but the wicket also got slower. Playing like this is not only dependent on me, it also depends on the batsman at the other end, Bravo, for instance played a maiden. Difficult to gauge how many is too many, cannot have a fixed game plan, there is no formula like Duckworth-Lewis. I was sure that I had nicked the ball (second last ball) and hence told the umpire that it's happened. The performance of the side has been good but as we get to the latter stage, we need to raise our games. Bowlers need to start bowling yorkers, becomes critical towards the end of the tournament, they need to realise that it's the one recipe that does not go wrong.

--------------------

Hyderabad had their chance in this game. They did well to get to 159. They did well to restrict the opposition to 132 in 18 overs and then Dhoni took over. A four and a six off Steyn and then a strange decision to bowl Reddy last over that costs them the game. Of course, Dhoni's the man, as he always is for the Super Kings. 67 from 37 after he started off so slowly. Hats off.

Chennai coach Stephen Fleming thinks his side did not deserve to win this.

--------------------

vhg: "and that's where you miss perera"

Vibhor Agarwal: "@Tango Pango: That's one of the reasons why you are not Dhoni."

Naresh Damera: "There were 1000 reasons for Karna's death. But there are two reasons SRH lost this match. Poor Captaincy and Mishra dropped catch. What a waste!!"

Srikanth: "There you go, Aashish.R is no Sachin and who ever played that day against Sachin is not Dhoni!!!"

Taha: "Yet another case of a hero with the bat becoming a villain with the ball." Tad harsh to call him that, not his fault that he was given the ball in such a pressure situation having not bowled the entire game.

Mehr: "that should be labeled as worst decision by any captain in IPL, Dhoni could have scored off from any bowler but you are called best bowling side of tourny and you hand ball to part timer & that against well settled Dhoni?? I wish these 2 points hurts them so everyone realizes how imp it was!"

4
Ashish to Dhoni, FOUR runs

hits straight and hits hard, down the ground for a four to finish it off in style, what a batsman, what a superb batsman, he's done it again.

19.3
4
Ashish to Dhoni, FOUR runs

no, no, no, what have you done there? that's wide down the leg side and there was no way the keeper could get close to it, gets some bat on it and it's gone through for a four.

19.2
6
Ashish to Dhoni, SIX runs

bad ball from Reddy, slower one but very, very full, and Dhoni's smashed it over long-on for a long, long six

Tango Pango: "How is Dhoni still cool? The way Bravo and Sir played, I'd have been fuming if I was him."

19.1
Ashish to Dhoni, no run

and another one, a very slow ball, Dhoni almost read it but it was so slow that he failed to change the stroke at the last second, misses

19.1
1w
Ashish to Dhoni, 1 wide

very wide outside the off stump, leaves it alone, was a slower one, back of the hand stump but called wide

Nope, it's not Sammy. It's Reddy, bowling his first over this match. Interesting move this. Reminds me of Tendulkar, Hero Cup, South Africa, 1993.

Steyn to Morris, no run

outside the off stump and he was looking to give himself room, beaten, through to the keeper

The game's very much on. On other nights I would have called Hyderabad favourites given what they have done in this tournament. But this is Chennai and this is Dhoni and he's done a lot before to allow me to say such a thing.

Steyn to Jadeja, OUT

gone, caught at point! that was smashed to the point region but it went straight to the fielder and is caught, Jadeja's got to walk. Checking for the no-ball but he's not transgressed there.

Ravindra Jadeja c Mishra b Steyn 1 (4b 0x4 0x6 9m) SR: 25

Srinivas Goud: "@babzandu, do u ever question why it is named "Mount Everest?". Consider fortunate u r living in the same world as Sir Jadeja;)"

SK: "@babazandu: you haven't seen MSD's tweet, God thought Rajini has become old, so he created SIR jadeja"

Anupam: "A player with the batting abilities of Bradman, bowling of Murlidharan+Warne and fielding ability of Rhodes, not to mention the captaincy skills of Imran Khan and the wicket keeping ability of Adam Gilchrist, you have to call him SIR!!"

1
Steyn to Dhoni, 1 run

quicker bouncer and he was looking to lap it down to the fine-leg fence, there was a fielder inside the circle and could have easily got him a four, straight to the fielder

18.3
6
Steyn to Dhoni, SIX runs

slower one and that has gone over the mid-wicket fielder for a six! half-century for Dhoni but what's with Steyn tonight, he is bowling length and despite the slowness of the pace he is able to crack it over the fielder for maximum!

18.2
4
Steyn to Dhoni, FOUR runs

up and over, that wasn't the most clever delivery from Steyn, the fielder was inside the circle on the off side and Steyn gave him room outside the off and he scoops it over the point region for a four

18.1
2
Steyn to Dhoni, 2 runs

short of the length and that's tapped away to the backward square-leg for a couple of runs, well carved out that gap

Steyn to bowl the 19th. Lot of changes in the field.

At the expense of my mail box being bombarded with tons of responses, babazandu: "Why is Jadega called Sir Ravindra Jadeja ?"

Sharma to Jadeja, no run

short of length and beaten. it was a quicker one, almost surprised the batsman, 141.5 km/hr stuff and the pull shot goes nowhere, tell you what, it does not even hit the bat, through to the keeper

Hassan: "Pulled and caught and not danced this time, first bravo including dismissal without a dance tonight :D"

Sharma to Dhoni, 1 run

full, very full and outside the off stump, there is that drill down the ground but Darren Sammy is quite straight and it goes straight to him for a single

1
Sharma to Jadeja, 1 run

wants to pull away a short of length ball but does not get the timing on it, gets it through to long-on for a single

17.3
Sharma to Jadeja, no run

slower one from Ishant, bowling a lot of those tonight, wants to cut it away, misses the outside edge of the bat

Ravindrasinh Jadeja comes in.

17.2
W
Sharma to Dwayne Bravo, OUT

pulled and caught! it was short of length, not too quick and Bravo, who has had a struggle in recent times tonight with the bat, goes for a pull, does not get the distance and it goes straight to Reddy for a simple catch at deep square-leg

Dwayne Bravo c Ashish Reddy b I Sharma 7 (16b 0x4 0x6 22m) SR: 43.75

Sharma to Dwayne Bravo, 2 runs

wants to work it to the leg side, gets bit of an inside edge and they are able to get back for the second run, there was a bit of a misunderstanding between the two but easily come back

and another one, dot that is, on the off stump and that's only pushed to the off side, not for a single now

16.4
Steyn to Dwayne Bravo, no run

fuller from the bowler and Bravo has defended it to the off side, for another dot, the roles have clearly reversed between the two batsmen out there in the middle
