So then, that's the way the cookie crumbles for the Lions. They have done very well for themselves, impressing their home crowd and beating Mumbai and Guyana. Not good enough for the semis though. Bangalore and South Australia march ahead. Sid Monga's bulletin captures the thrills and spills of the day here. Lots to play for in Group A, where there are two games coming up tomorrow, including the all-important Chennai v Warriors game. Do tune in for that one. On behalf of team ESPNcricinfo, this is Nitin Sundar signing off for the day. Cheers!

Presentations coming up. Kohli is the MoM "Really happy to be there till the end, and the team won. I was really disappointed about the last game after taking it to the last ball. Happy to do it this time. T20 games turn in one over. I was waiting for it, and it came in the 17th over. I messed up with Uthappa's run out and apologised to him.. He is a good friend, doesn't mind that (smiles)" I am reminded of him running out Kevin Pietersen in the IPL. There were no jokes on that occasion though!

Petersen: "We fought all the way and played as a team. Our success should not be measured by where we finished, but by the obstacles we crossed. We were about 20 runs short. Kumble tied us up a bit. The best team won - all the best to Bangalore for the semis"

Kumble: "As long as wickets were there, and Virat was in with Whitey, we knew it was about one good over. Virat's spell was critical, myself and him.. Dillon and Steyn bowled really well in the end. I was disappointed with my performance in the previous game, no better time to step up than in the next game. Nice to go back to Durban. (Smiles when asked about who he supports for tomorrow) Hope Chennai makes it there."

Senthil: "Some one said no Indian performed for RCB in the previous match against South Australia.... now RCB is thru to semis coz of Kumble, Dravid, Pandey and Kohli's performances!" True.

Virat Kohli is the man of the moment. He was left on his haunches, desolate and depressed after the tragic defeat against Mumbai. Today he ensured it did not even get that close. 49 runs scored with murderous intent in 29 balls, and that 17th over from O'Reilly cinched it. Well played young man! Don't forget Kumble though. His drop of Bravo probably cost Bangalore that game against Mumbai. He came on today, choked Lions, got Petersen bowled, and put his side on course for a win.

1
de Bruyn to White, 1 run

Ladies and gentlemen, we have an IPL team in the Champions League at long last! Full toss on middle and leg, and White bunts it over the infield on the leg side. The Lions have stopped roaring. Bangalore have marched into the last four.

18.5
de Bruyn to White, no run

at long last, de Bruyn lands a yorker on the spot and White can't do much with it. Played back to the bowler

Anshul: "Forget utthapam and caramel .. i am getting Kohlapuri Misal and jaggery for Kohli !! "

18.4
6
de Bruyn to White, SIX runs

White!!! Wicked, violent Whack! Serves up a length ball on middle, White gets everything behind it and lofts it over midwicket. Into the Wanderers sky and lands well beyond the boundary

18.3
1
de Bruyn to Kohli, 1 run

and again, on the pads, he swings it round the corner but can't find the gap this time

18.2
4
de Bruyn to Kohli, FOUR runs

well, not the time to feed Kohli with meat and drink is it? Another one, full and on his pads, he happily tucks into it. Phangiso ran across and dived from deep midwicket, but all to no avail

18.1
1
de Bruyn to White, 1 run

full on White's toes and he clips it in front of square for one

30 have come off the last 2 overs and Bangalore are running away with this.

2
Frylinck to Kohli, 2 runs

bouncer to Kohli at 134 kph, he is seeing them early, so early that he is playing them early and not timing them. Still picks two to deep midwicket

17.5
1
Frylinck to White, 1 run

full on off stump, White is backing away again and manages a single to point

17.4
2
Frylinck to White, 2 runs

and now he drills one down the ground, gets under it anbd looks for the big hit, but not enough elevation. Kohli hares back for two

17.3
4
Frylinck to White, FOUR runs

bouncer at 129 kph, White happily pulls it away square, murderous intent, he spun a couple of times as he swung it away

17.2
1
Frylinck to Kohli, 1 run

this one drifts on to the pads and Kohli flicks it easily behind square. There is cover in the deep though

17.1
1
Frylinck to White, 1 run

White does the smart thing, works it off his toes for a single and hands it to red-hot Kohli

full toss on middle and he can't quite get it away this time, gets it down to wide long on for 2. What an over!

16.5
4
O'Reilly to Kohli, FOUR runs

and he completes the full complement with one through the off side! backs away to leg stump, opens up the off side, gets a half volley on off stump and drills it through the line into the cver boundary

16.4
6
O'Reilly to Kohli, SIX runs

SHOT! Another length ball, on off stump, Kohli opens up the off side and goes WHACK straight over the bowler's head. No backlift, no follow through. None needed when you time it like that!

16.3
6
O'Reilly to Kohli, SIX runs

what a shot! That is a short boundary alright, and it was minimal effort from Kohli as he got inside the line and played that swat-flick which had Mumbai in trouble the other day. Six over deep square leg

16.2
O'Reilly to Kohli, no run

on the spot again, Kohli is struggling to get them away. Played back to the bowler

16.1
1
O'Reilly to White, 1 run

starts with a searing yorker homing in on off stump, and it is kept out to the covers for one.

Sootty: "Doesn't look like we are getting any ghee utthapas here tonight. Perhaps some caramel for Cameroon instead..." Or maybe macaroons?

pressure! Kohli feels the heat, he is looking to get under one, Deacon delivers it short, and Kohli is a tad early into the pull, No contact made.

15.5
Deacon to Kohli, no run

spot-on with the yorker, only 128 kph but if you can hit that spot just outside off, pace does not matter. Batsman can't do much
