7.20pm KKR are eliminated as the match has been called off.

Anand Gautham: "I hate my laziness! Had worked out exactly what Andrew wrote, but I didn't feel like elaborating on it in my earlier comment. One day my comment will also be published!! Btw, even Chennai (with 2 teams on 8 already) is practically out, if that helps :)"

Mayur: "I am from canada and I paid $17 for entire IPL season. whoever said $25 per match is wrong." I have no clue about Canadian cable rates, so can step into this argument.

Right, we are done with the matches for today. Tomorrow is Sydney Sixers v Lions, and Mumbai Indians v Yorkshire. Join us then, for more debates and, hopefully, lesser rain.

7.00pm Still drizzling, and there are puddles on the outfield. It isn't the crazy intensity of about 15 minutes ago. Don't expect play for about an hour, at least.

Can anyone work out a scenario in which KKR stay in the tournament if today is a washout? I can't see how they can qualify.

James: "@Karthik: That small country called Canada broadcasts IPL at around $25 per match! Being an avid cricket fan, ex-umpire (both outdoor and indoor), having gone to same school which Kallis and Levi attended, I won't pay $25 per match."

We've had a few of these. Priyashrav: "I live 20,732 km from the stadium and I have no idea when the rain will stop

Sam: "May be by giving some extra points for being an IPL team KKR can qualify." Yup, else it looks like the end of the road for KKR.

Dibyajyoti Lahiri: "I live underground and am not too worried about mere trifles such as rain!"

Shravan Koganti: "Sorry to hear that James. Lucky for us ESPN is broadcasting every match for free in HD :)"

J Andrew on the KKR situation: "It is mathematically impossible. The only way a 6-point team can advance is if the overall numbers are 16-6-6-6-6, and since they still have the Titans to play, it can't happen. (Otherwise put: Auckland and Daredevils would have to have a no-result of their own to keep either from reaching 8. And then they'd both have to lose their remaining matches--but if they do, then Perth gets 8 from those." Top work that.

6.45pm It's a downpour in Durban now. Chances of a washout increasing. Here's what it looks like now.

Nagesh: "I want to see 'i stay 500m away from the stadium and it has stopped raining here' comment." Sadly, the rain isn't stopping.

More depressing news from Am: "Im here at kingsmead, Its pouring really heavy. A lot of Lightning and thunder. I dont see this match being completed."

Karthik: "Response: Eliya Abbas

USA is not the only country in NA. There is a little country called Canada as well. Cricket is a growing sport here. Infact, they broadcast IPL."

6.30pm The rain has got a little heavier now. Some lightning around Kingsmead, and a pretty stiff breeze as well.

Heinz Schenk, the cricket writer for the Citizen, informs us the rain has become "massive" now. We could be in for a long delay.

Eliya Abbas: "Having had a look at the USACA Facebook page, I don't see North America making it this big in cricket any time soon!"

Rakesh: "@Garvin I think that GG has simply forgotten that Abdullah is playing this game!!" He forgot to mention Abdulla among the changes at the toss as well!

Rain stops play. The rain gets a bit heavier and Taufel waves the players off the field. The groundsmen carry the covers on. Still not a downpour, just a heavy drizzle. Ground staff in no hurry here.

Shuvam: "finally the IPL version of Lakshmipathy Balaji has arisen." 3-0-17-0.

JoseP: "From Marsh to Marsh? What happened to the Captain? Is it his confession that North had been going south for some time?" Probably thinks Mitchell is better suited for the big hits Perth needs, than North.

Garvin: "Is Abdulla playing as a specialist batman?" Good question.
