Three wickets apiece from seamers Abdul Sabri and Nick Farrar helped Scotland Under-19s snatch a five-run win against Namibia Under-19s in the 13th place playoff in Abu Dhabi.
Namibia, chasing 179, were hampered by the loss of wickets at regular intervals, but their final pair of Bredell Wessells and Kobus Brand nearly took the team home with a 28-run partnership. However, Wessells was caught by Ross McLean off Sabri for 29 in the 46th over, leaving Namibia stranded on 173.
Most of Namibia's top and middle order made starts, but opener Joshuan Julius (32) was the only one who stayed in the crease long enough to make a significant contribution. Farrar finished with 3 for 33, while Sabri was slightly more economical, going for 3 for 38 from 7.1 overs.
Scotland, electing to bat, had made 178 on the back of a 34 from Michael English and a 36 from Alex Baum down the order which helped them recover from a shaky start. For Namibia, Marius Delport, Jano Coetzee, Brand and Wessells snared two wickets each.
A lower-order batting collapse from Papua New Guinea resulted in Canada edging a 11-run win in the 15th place playoff in Abu Dhabi. PNG, chasing 170, looked well set and heading towards victory at 150 for 6 and with 32 balls remaining. However, four wickets in the space of 21 deliveries kept them to 158.
PNG had earlier done well to restrict Canada to 169. Yug Rao (77) and Stephan Joseph (58) were the top-scorers, but no other batsman reached double digits as Nosaina Pokana and Sakavai Gebai picked up seven scalps between them to dismiss Canada in 44.1 overs.
PNG began their chase brightly as the openers Kiplin Doriga and Riley Hekure added 40 inside seven overs, but from then on, they began losing wickets at regular intervals. Anthony Vare made 29 and the captain Dogodo Bau top-scored with a boundary-less 39, but in the end, the team fell just short.
