India have registered their first win in the tournament.

They played with a lot of determination and purpose today.

The bowlers did the trick for India on a pitch that held true, through the course of play today.

Perhaps this was the best track used in this tournament so far. Kalu and Jayasuriya gave a good start to their innings, putting together 103 runs for the first wicket.

Indians did well to pick up ten wickets giving away just 80 more runs.

Chasing a target of 184 was not going to be a difficult task on a friendly pitch.

India were without the services of their skipper Ganguly. Dravid did well as a captain, making the bowling changes at the right time.

India had a shocking start, losing their 'specialist' opening batsman Amay Khurasiya for a duck. He was bowled by Vaas, Khurasiya playing all over the ball.

Sehwag had trouble facing the pace of Dilhara Fernando, he was the second man to be out, giving an easy catch to Sangakkara off the bowling of Dharmasena

Laxman and Dravid put together a good partnership for the third wicket, putting together 84 runs.

Dravid made 43 runs off 79 balls

The story of the day has been the unbeaten knock of 87 off 127 balls by the stylish batsman from Hyderabad VVS Laxman

Laxman is CricInfo's Top Performer of the day

Along with Badani (11 not out) Laxman helped India through to a win, which keeps their hopes of reaching the finals alive

Laxman played some amazing shots today, there was a glorious extra cover drive off the bowling of Vaas, which stood out as the very best!

And, Laxman has been awarded the Man of the Match!
