Commentary

9.40 pm I'll have the presentation for you in a bit ...

The Player of the Final is Jess Cameron, for scoring 75 and setting up a match-winning total. "It was good we had a good team performance," she says. "The pitch played really well today, it was tough on the bowlers. We have plenty of batters and I knew if I went out at any time someone else would take over. Ellyse Perry and Shooter also bowled very well today ..."

The Player of the Tournament is New Zealand's Suzie Bates. "Yeak look it's a bit disappointing to finish fourth, but on a personal level it's a bit pleasing. I would have liked to have timed some of my runs against West Indies ..." She says her century against Australia was her highlight of the tournament.

The West Indian players are going up to receive medals for making the final.

Merissa Aguilleira: "We really have to give it to Australia, they played good cricket throughout the tournament. We played good cricket to reach here ... We had some mishaps in the field and we went offtrack, it was all about executing but we did not do that. We really didn't come up to the plate today. It's hard luck for us but we did well ..."

The Australians are coming up to receive their winners' medals. Jodie Fields is the last one ... "We spoke a lot about coming into this match and dominating and I think we did that ... what more can you ask for. It was smart batting by Meg, Jess Cameron and Rachael Haynes ... to come back and score 260 was good for us. I did have a nervous moment at the top of her mark [Ellyse Perry] but she came good for us today ..."

The Australians have their World Cup trophy and the celebrations are continuing. They are singing their celebratory song ... I caught a line that said "We are the Southern Stars." They'll be singing that late into the night ...

We'll have a lot more news and analysis up on the site soon. Abhishek Purohit will be working late into the night writing stories. But that's all I have for you right now. We hope you've enjoyed our coverage of the tournament. Cheers.

9.25pm Australia have won their sixth World Cup. Ellyse Perry has a stump as a souvenir and she deserves one. She's had a stunning game, Australia have had a stunning game. Outclassed West Indies in every discipline. There are a lot of hugs and smiles, nothing too exuberant because this result was a forgone conclusion very early in the chase.

Australia's vice-captain, Alex Blackwell: "This is a great job, we didn't have it easy, we were challenged through the tournament, it's very special feeling, we're going to celebrate this one. We were hoping more like 280, but with runs on the board we backed our bowlers ... lot's of support from back home too."

Schutt: "It's a privilege to be here, best feeling in the world ... such a trooper [Ellyse Perry] coming in with an injury and taking those wickets ..."

Sarah Coyte: "Amazing, this is what we train for ... very glad to be part of it tonight."

Ellyse Perry: "It;s a lovely feeling to achieve what we have over the last few months ... it's a bit sore [ankle] but it's alright ... holly's been a star for us, I probably felt a bit of pressure as I replaced her tonight." Perry says she's looking forward to bowling with Holly Ferling in the future.

Julie Hunter says she's thrilled to have been part of the double - the World T20 and the World Cup. "A lot can happen in four years and we worked hard to make sure we change that result [of the previous world cup]."

Hunter to Smartt, OUT, and it's an epic catch to end the World Cup! Lisa Sthalekar moves nimbly to her right at short midwicket and dives full length to take the catch inches from the ground. Smartt had chipped it tamely in the air.

Julie Hunter's back for her second spell...
