Henriques, Edwards crack centuries in NSW's come-from-behind win

Experienced allrounder Moises Henriques and teenager Jack Edwards made centuries in a 237-run partnership at Drummoyne Oval to mow down the target of 297 that Queensland had set them. New South Wales will now head into the qualifying finals having secured back-to-back wins.

Edwards, 18, scored his first hundred in professional cricket and, in doing so, became the youngest man to score a century in Australian one-day domestic cricket, while Henriques scored his third List A hundred in his 88th innings as the Blues won by six wickets with more than four overs to spare.

The pair were set a huge task after Daniel Hughes and Kurtis Patterson were dismissed cheaply by Mark Steketee and Luke Feldman respectively. But Edwards was fearless with his strokeplay, while Henriques was the perfect guiding hand. They went boundary for boundary and single for single for nearly 38 overs to take the game by the scruff of the neck.

They were particularly savage on Queensland 28-year-old debutant Andrew Gode and did not allow legspinner Mitchell Swepson to settle in at any stage in the middle overs.

They brought up their respective hundreds up off consecutive balls in the 37th over. Edwards fell for 116 with 41 runs still needed from 60 balls. Henriques completed the job with an unbeaten run-a-ball 134.

Earlier, Pat Cummins' return to domestic cricket from a back injury was overshadowed by a powerful hundred from Queensland skipper Chris Lynn. With his second List-A hundred, the T20 gun-for-hire made another significant case to be included in Australia's 2019 World Cup squad.

He was bogged down early as Blues skipper Peter Nevill wisely turned to the left-arm spin of Steve O'Keefe when Lynn arrived at the crease in the ninth over. O'Keefe raced through six overs for 13 runs and Lynn limped to 20 off 40 balls before beginning his assault. He hit O'Keefe over the rope and NSW's other five bowlers got similar treatment. He reached his hundred from just 87 balls and continued on before holing out to Cummins for 135 with 51 balls remaining in the innings. Cummins finished with 1 for 56 from nine overs.

The Bulls then collapsed from 5 for 278 to be all out for 296. Chris Green bagged 5 for 53 as the tail folded to leave the Blues with a very manageable run chase. Lynn spent most of the second innings off the field with a calf issue.

The loss meant Queensland finished sixth on the table and will face third-placed South Australia in a qualifying final at North Sydney on Wednesday. New South Wales will face Victoria in a qualifying final on Thursday at Drummoyne Oval. The winners of those finals will progress to face Western Australia and Tasmania in the semi-finals.
