Group C

A slick allround performance by Durham, which included fifties from Kyle Coetzer, Will Smith and Ian Blackwell, led to a swift 60-run win over Surrey at The Oval. Coetzer and Smith put on exactly 100 for the second wicket before Coetzer was bowled by Chris Schofield for 66. Smith, who hit five fours in his 77, was then joined by Ian Blackwell who played with typical lusty abandon as Durham's total was lofted to 287 for 4. Surrey's chase began nicely when Scott Newman (53) and Mark Ramprakash (36) were at the crease, but their wickets initiated a middle-order collapse in which they stumbled from 130 for 2 to 139 for 6. Usman Afzaal took the attack to Durham, smashing Gareth Breese (3 for 42) for six, but his 58 was a lone effort and Surrey slumped to a 60-run defeat in the 48th over.
Rain thwarted Gloucestershire's bid to extend their lead at the top of Group C. The visitors raced to a commanding 306 for 9 in their match against Sussex at Hove with Craig Spearman crunching 67 from 52 and Steve Adshead blasting 66 from just 45 deliveries. The heavens opened during the interval, however, and both sides took a point each.

Group D

Tom Smith's run-a-ball 87 led Lancashire to an impressive eight-wicket win in a rain-affected, Duckworth-Lewis-intervened match against Glamorgan at Cardiff. Play went on until 10pm with Lancashire chasing a tough 208 from 31 overs, but Smith and Mark Chilton, who thumped 58 from 42, made it look easy. Paul Horton got their pursuit off to a flyer with 34 from 29 before Smith and Chilton put on an unbeaten 132 for the third wicket. Chilton cracked four fours and a six in his fifty while Smith, who was dropped off a reverse sweep on 36, notched eight fours and one six, as Lancashire maintained their comfortable lead at the top of Group D. Glamorgan made 122 for 1 before rain halted play, and thereafter they lost a clatter of wickets in pursuit of quick runs, eventually ending on 172 for 8 from 31. Mark Cosgrove top-scored with 68 before holing out to long off. Lancashire put a hold the scoring, bowling 25 dot balls in the last ten overs.
Rain abandoned Derbyshire's match against Northamptonshire at Derby.
