Scorecard and ball-by-ball details
New Zealand Women thrashed Sri Lanka Women by 10 wickets by bowling them out for 126 and then chasing the score rather easily in under 15 overs, in the second ODI in Lincoln. New Zealand captain Suzie Bates impressed with an all-round performance that included figures of 3 for 27 from her ten overs and an unbeaten and aggressive knock of 70 from 44 balls, to help her team to a 2-0 lead in the five-match series.
Put in to bat, Sri Lanka were rocked early, being 4 for 2 in the third over, and dented further in the 12th over in which Bates struck twice. They were revived briefly by two stands that featured top-scorer Chamari Polgampola (35) - of 31 runs for the fifth wicket with Dilani Manodara (31) and 36 runs with Sripali Weerakkody for the sixth wicket. However, Bates came back to break the sixth-wicket partnership and Sri Lanka lost their next four wickets for 22 runs to be bowled out in 46.5 overs. Medium-pacer Sophie Devine finished with figures of 10-2-17-2, that included her 50th ODI wicket.
The hosts were hardly bothered in their chase. Rachel Priest continued her fine form from the first ODI, and scored an unbeaten 51 off 43 balls that included nine fours. Bates' fifty, on the other hand, included 13 fours and a six as the hosts whittled down the target by scoring at nearly nine runs per over. The win takes them to third place in the ICC Women's Championship, behind Australia and West Indies.
