Scorecard
Derbyshire have suffered a nasty hangover since their relegation from Division One of the County Championship last year, going without a win in either four-day or T20 cricket in the first two months of the 2014 season. But they broke their duck on the final day at Grace Road with Paul Borrington leading them home.
Derbyshire strolled to their victory target of 186 for the loss of just one wicket with openers Stephen Moore and Paul Borrington leading the way with half-centuries.
The win for Karl Krikken's side sees them move off the bottom of the table, with still winless Leicestershire replacing their conquerors in last place following their third first-class defeat of the season.
Resuming on 200 for 9, the Foxes added just 10 runs before No. 11 Alex Wyatt's dismissal brought their second innings to a close, gloving a Mark Footitt delivery to Wayne Madsen at slip.
Set 186 to win, Derbyshire made a slow but steady start, openers Moore and Borrington batting at two-an-over early on. Borrington dispatched James Sykes' first ball of the 22nd over to the boundary to bring up the Derbyshire 50 and he moved to 26 and Moore 32 as the visitors reached 61 without loss at lunch - 125 runs shy of their target.
Sensible batting was still the order of the day after the interval as the opening pair picked their shots with care. Moore brought up his half-century from 98 balls by dispatching Josh Cobb to the ropes in the ninth over after the restart and Borrington brought the team hundred up two overs later with a single off Cobb.
Having passed the half-century mark, Moore let loose with a flurry of boundaries as Derbyshire edged closer and closer to their target. Moore's innings came to an end when he was caught at midwicket by Sykes off Rob Taylor. His 136-ball innings included nine fours and concluded with Derbyshire on 121, needing 65 runs to win.
Two fours in three balls in the 52nd over saw Borrington join his opening partner in passing the half-century mark, and with Madsen equally comfortable at the crease the pair chased down the remaining runs with minimum fuss. Madsen sent an Angus Robson delivery to the ropes to win the match in style. He finished on 22 not out, with Borrington unbeaten on 86.
Derbyshire earned 22 points for the comprehensive victory, with Leicestershire awarded five points.
