A wrap of Quaid-e-Azam games that finished on Tuesday, January 7, 2014

Super Eight, Group A
Peshawar's Israrullah scored hundreds in both innings but the game ended with Islamabad coming terribly close to pulling off a chase off 377 at the National Ground. They finished eight runs short, on 369 for 6, as the match was drawn. After they lost the toss, Peshawar opener Israrullah scored 148 off 179 balls and built a solid platform with Mohammad Idrees, who made 84. They took the team to 250 for 2 but once the partnership was broken, wickets fell regularly and Peshawar were dismissed for 350 in 70.2 overs on the first day. Imad Wasim claimed 5 for 89 for Islamabad. The hosts were 13 for 3 in their first innings before a century from Wasim at No. 7 propped them up and they were dismissed for 286 an the end of the second day. Peshawar's Taj Wali took 4 for 87. Having taken a first-innings lead of 64, Peshawar's second innings was fast paced as well. Israrullah made an unbeaten 138 off 200 balls, while Idrees made 74 off 87. They declared on 312 for 5 late on the third day, leaving Islamabad with a daunting chase. Islamabad's top three made brisk half-centuries and they were contributions all through as they motored towards the target of 377 at more than four runs an over. they slipped, however, from 277 for 2 to 311 for 5, and that took the necessary steam out of the chase.
Babar Rehman took career-best match figures of 11 for 112 to bowl Karachi Whites to a seven-wicket victory against Karachi Blues at the NBP Sports Complex. Rehman took 5 for 61 in the first innings as Karachi Blues were dismissed for 254 on the first day, with only four of their batsmen making double-digit scores. Karachi Whites had a poor start to their innings too - they lost three wickets with the score on 16 - and slumped to 53 for 5. Three half-centuries from the lower order, including one from Shahzaib Ahmed at No. 9, lifted the score to 289. Rehman was at it again in the second innings, taking career-best innings figures of 6 for 51 to dismiss Karachi Blues for 177 on the third day, leaving Karachi Whites with 143 to chase. Daniyal Mansoor scored a half-century and they got there with seven wickets in hand.
Super Eight, Group B
Nasir Malik's nine wickets in the match nearly resulted in a victory for Rawalpindi against Lahore Shalimar, but Rawalpindi lost a clutch of batsmen towards the end of their chase of 274 and the contest was drawn. Rawalpindi were 209 for 2 at one stage of their chase, with Muzammil Nizam and Babar Naeem on half-centuries, needing 65 to win. They lost 4 for 29, though, and finished on 240 for 6. Rawalpindi had got that close after Malik took 6 for 72 to dismiss Lahore Shalimar for 270 in the first innings. Rawalpindi had a poor first innings, though, and conceded a lead of 49. They collapsed from 188 for 2 to 221 all out, with Mohammad Irfan taking 5 for 34. Lahore Shalimar were dismissed for 224 in a largely unremarkable second innings, which set Rawalpindi a target of 274, but they didn't have the time to make it.
Sialkot hung on to prevent defeat against Multan by one wicket after vastly contrasting performances in their first and second innings. No. 4 Naved Sarwar scored a century to help Sialkot recover from 12 for 3 to 392. They also had centuries from Nos. 5, 6 and 7, while Mohammed Rameez took 5 for 133 for Multan, who then went on to take a first-innings lead of 77. Abdul Rehman Muzammil scored 174 for Multan, and Aamer Yamin made 138 to lift the score from 175 for 6 to 469. Sialkot lost seven wickets before they wiped out the deficit and then lost the ninth when they were only 17 runs ahead. The tail, however, had survived just long enough to deny Multan.
Six bottom teams, Pool A
The damage inflicted on Lahore Ravi by Hyderabad's bowlers on the first day was significant enough to culminate in a seven-wicket victory at the Niaz Stadium. Furqan Azeem led the rout for Hyderabad, taking three wickets, as Lahore Ravi's top six were dismissed in single digits. Tanzeel Altaf scored an unbeaten century at No. 7 and the lower order rallied to convert 68 for 7 to 204 all out. Hyderabad suffered no such collapse and a 103 from Faisal Athar and fifties from Lal Kumar and Mir Ali led them to 421 and a first-innings lead of 217. Plenty of Lahore Ravi batsmen got starts in the second innings but only Farhan Nazar converted it into a half-century. He was stranded on 98 when they were dismissed for 329. Nasir Awais took 4 for 93 for Hyderabad, who were left with a target of 113 to chase. They got there with the loss of only three wickets.
Six bottom teams, Pool B
Faisal Mubashir made 216, his career-best score, and Mohammad Yasir scored 146 to lead Bahawalpur to 552, a total that was large enough to beat Quetta by an innings and 32 runs at the Dring Stadium. Waqas Khan was stranded on 98 off 115 balls when Bahawalpur were all out on the second day. Quetta's top order folded cheaply in their first innings, apart from Taimur Ali who made 105, and they were dismissed for 204 on the third day. Wasim Mustafa took 4 for 59 for Bahawalpur, who then enforced the follow-on. Quetta's second innings was more solid, with three batsmen scoring half-centuries, but then they slumped from 235 for 4 to 243 for 8. Imranullah Aslam took 4 for 81 to finish with seven in the match, as Quetta were dismissed for 316 on the final day.
