Peters' seven-for leads Windward into final

Despite middling performances with the bat, Windward Islands thumped Trinidad & Tobago by 234 runs to enter the final of the Regional Four Day competition, where they will meet Jamaica.

At the centre of the Windward effort was a career best 7 for 36 from left-arm pacer Kenroy Peters, who demolished T&T's chase of 340. Peters broke an opening stand of 50 between Lendl Simmons and Evin Lewis and then took Jason Mohammad's wicket to set off a slide. T&T lost their last seven wickets for 25 runs and folded for 105.

Their first-innings response to Windward's 248 followed a same pattern - seamer Mervin Mathew had all four of his wickets caught behind as T&T lurched to 140 for 8, their innings held together by Lewis' unbeaten 47.

Shannon Gabriel and Marlon Richards had Windward in trouble early on in the first innings, reducing them to 49 for 3 before the middle order staged a comeback. Sunil Ambris (44) and Keddy Lesporis (39) shared a useful partnership of 63, which was consolidated by a 90-run sixth-wicket partnership between Liam Sebastien (40) and Romel Currency (68), before Imran Khan (4-49) and Ricky Jaipaul (2-34) bundled out the lower order quickly.

Khan was in form again in the second innings, picking up 5 for 46 but a 63 from Devon Smith and another cameo from Liam Sebastien helped Windward stretch their 108-run lead to 339.

Jamaica's last standing batsmen Nikita Miller and David Bernard held their nerve to help the team overhaul 167 against Barbados and book their berth in the final of the Headley-Weekes Trophy- the second phase of the domestic first-class competition- against Windward Islands next week.

Barbados, batting first, had made 245 on the back of a 101-run stand for the seventh wicket between Shane Dorwich (69 not out) and Ashley Nurse (45). Jamaica, however, earned a 57-run lead thanks to a century from the captain Tamar Lambert (121) which lifted them to 302, with Sulieman Benn starring for Barbados by picking up five scalps.

Miller then made his contribution with the ball, taking three wickets, but Jonathan Carter's 111 helped Barbados to 223, setting Jamaica 167 for victory.

At 111 for 2, Jamaica looked to be heading towards an easy victory thanks to a fifty from Jermaine Blackwood (64). However, a batting collapse saw them lose the next seven wickets for just 44 runs, leaving both teams eyeing a spot in the final. Miller and Bernard held on though, to hit the winning runs and sneak a one-wicket victory.
