Grant Robinson's unbeaten 77 guided Northern Districts to a five-wicket win over Canterbury at Whangerai. He was ably supported by James Marshall, who scored a 55-ball 51, and their 101-run stand helped their side coast to the target of 229 with over three overs to spare. Earlier, Shanan Stewart top-scored with 73 for Canterbury after captain Chris Harris opted to bat first. Harris contributed 38 and the pair added 83 for the fourth wicket.
Auckland fell short by 26 runs against Central Districts in their State Shield match at Eden Park Outer Oval. Peter Ingram, the leading run-scorer in the tournament this season, top-scored with 61 for Central Districts after they chose to bat first. Greg Hay contributed an unbeaten 49 and his 53-run stand for the ninth wicket with Campbell Furlong lifted the visitors to 232 at the end of 50 overs. Roneel Hira, the left-arm spinner, picked up 4 for 40 in his alloted overs.
Ewen Thompson, the Central Districts seamer, snared two early wickets to peg Auckland back. Reece Young scored an aggressive 54 but lacked enough support and the side was bundled out for 206 with five overs to spare.
