As a schoolboy and a promising 'quick', Brett Harrop was an exciting prospect. Unfortunately back related injuries saw him play little cricket during his latter teens, and whilst this curtailed his rise in cricket, he was able to pursue his studies in physiotherapy. The enforced 'lay off' from constant cricket was the start of the healing process, and through some careful management and a strict training regime, he eventually forced his way back into Premier Cricket with his club team, University. Two very successful years 'back to back' brought selection in the Victoria 2nd X1 team, and in 2002 he was rewarded first with a VIS scholarship, and then a Rookie contract with the Bushrangers.
