Scorecard
Peter Nevill soared to an undefeated double century as New South Wales left Tasmania with a mighty deficit to overcome entering the final day of the Sheffield Shield match at Bellerive Oval.
Only one other NSW wicketkeeper had made a 200-plus score in a first-class match - Billy Murdoch's 321 against Victoria as far back as the summer of 1881-82 - and only Adam Gilchrist for Western Australia and Wayne Phillips for South Australia had done the trick among other state glovemen.
The innings underlines Nevill's likely place as the next cab among wicketkeepers behind the Test match incumbent Brad Haddin, meaning he is likely to tour the West Indies and England as back-up to the vice-captain later this year.
Nevill was assisted greatly by the Blues' tail, with Steve O'Keefe reaching 99 before Gurinder Sandhu and Doug Bollinger helped raise stands of 50 and 111 for the final two wickets. Ultimately it was Nevill himself who ended the innings, as the Tigers were unable to prise out the last man Bollinger.
Ed Cowan was dismissed by Sean Abbott before the close in Hobart, leaving Jordan Silk and Alex Doolan with plenty to do on the final morning.
