Bangladesh in Sri Lanka Test Series - 2nd Test

Sri Lanka v Bangladesh

Sri Lanka won by an innings and 90 runs

Overs 0-50

Hello and welcome to the second Test of the Sri Lanka-Bangladesh series at the P Saravanamuttu Stadium in Colombo. I'm Siddhartha and I'll be taking you through the first day.

Toss Mahela Jayawardene won the toss and expectedly decided to field first on a seamer-friendly pitch. Mahela reckons the pitch will be quicker than the one used for the first Test at the Sinhalese Sports Club.

Teams Sri Lanka decided to go in with an unchanged squad while Bangladesh made three changes. Khaled Mashud, the wicketkeeper, was replaced by Mushfiqur Rahim. Abdur Razzak and Shakib Al Hasan, the two left-arm spinners, missed out and were replaced by Mehrab Hossain, a middle-order batsman making his debut, and Mohammad Sharif, the fast bowler.

Chaminda Vaas is all set to start. So is Javed Omar Belim. Here we go.

0.1

Vaas to Javed Omar, no run, Full ball on middle stump, middled straight back to the bowler, always nice to get the ball in the meat of the bat straight away

Bangladesh in tatters on the first day. They're in line to notch up the lowest total on Sri Lankan soil. Malinga began the rout before Fernando and Murali joined the fun. The pitch has helped the faster bowlers early but Bangladesh will no doubt blame their batsmen for some reckless strokeplay. Join us for the post-lunch session.

Theena says: "I can't believe we have to endure this sort of silliness in an international sport. Every time Bangladesh manages to beat a major team, their supporters are eager to point out how much they've improved. If this is how they term improvement, then I'd hate to see what they are like when they are struggling. Someone please call Geoffrey Boycott's mum and aunties. Watching them take on the Sri Lankans will be far more entertaining than watching this dross."

Kakon, writing in from Japan, offers a solution. Not too long ago, this idea was floated: "ICC should consider a second tier sytem in Test arena including the last four countries of the ICC chart and two other associate nations, where Bangladesh could get some condolenece."

End of over 25 (3 runs) Bangladesh 62/9
Mohammad Sharif    4* (17b)      SL Malinga    9-1-25-4
Shahadat Hossain    1* (4b)      M Muralitharan    5-1-14-3

Murali to start proceedings after lunch. Just one wicket to snap up

25.1

Muralitharan to Shahadat Hossain, no run, tossed up, batsman comes forward and defends confidently

25.2

Muralitharan to Shahadat Hossain, OUT, And that is that. Doosra comes out and Shahadat plays for the offbreak. Misses it completely and the ball rattles the stumps. Bangladesh cleaned up for 62, the lowest total on Sri Lankan soil.

Shahadat Hossain b Muralitharan 1 (8m 6b 0x4 0x6) SR: 16.66

Muralitharan ends with four wickets, so does Malinga in what's been a pathetic batting performance. The pitch helped the bowlers but it was the batsmen who succumbed meekly. This is Bangldesh's lowest score in Test cricket, beating their previous lowest of 86 again against Sri Lanka at R Premadasa Stadium in 2005.
