England tour of Sri Lanka, 2007/08 / Wicket commentary

Overs 1-50  | Overs 51-100  | Overs 101-150

10.1

Sidebottom to Vandort, OUT, a huge appeal from Sidebottom as Vandort is rapped on the pads. Rauf, the umpire, has a long look at it - and he's given him! Good grief he took his time, and it looked to be spearing down the leg side. And it looked to be a bit high, too.

MG Vandort lbw b Sidebottom 18 (48m 33b 2x4 0x6) SR: 54.54

Sri Lanka 34/1   WU Tharanga 15* (28b 2x4)   RJ Sidebottom 5.1-1-14-1

14.4

Harmison to Tharanga, OUT, he's gone! Tharanga's rapped on the pads, Rauf takes his time - and up goes the finger. That would have hit the top of the off stump, though replays show the ball pitched outside the leg stump. A dodgy decision, again, but very well bowled by Harmison

WU Tharanga lbw b Harmison 16 (72m 42b 2x4 0x6) SR: 38.09

Sri Lanka 44/2   KC Sangakkara 6* (13b 1x4)   SJ Harmison 2.4-0-3-1

45.1

Harmison to Sangakkara, OUT, gone! The bouncer from Harmison, Sangakkara hooks but can't control it as the ball skies to Monty Panesar at deep square leg who takes a safe catch, and celebrates like a millionaire

KC Sangakkara c Panesar b Harmison 46 (151m 95b 7x4 0x6) SR: 48.42

Sri Lanka 132/3   DPMD Jayawardene 45* (101b 6x4)   SJ Harmison 8.1-0-24-2

53.2

Harmison to Silva, OUT, fantastic delivery! Silva came forward a little tentatively, pushing at it meekly, and with the extra bounce from Harmison the ball flew off a thick edge to Bell at first slip who took a simple catch

LPC Silva c Bell b Harmison 1 (36m 26b 0x4 0x6) SR: 3.84

Sri Lanka 138/4   DPMD Jayawardene 49* (124b 6x4)   SJ Harmison 12.2-2-26-3

99.1

Bopara to DPMD Jayawardene, OUT, push down off the back foot towards the slips and Dilshan sets off like lightning... but Jayawardene will have to wait to see if he's made his hundred as an underarm shy from Cook could have run him out. There's a long delay in fact because it's such a tight call, and different angles are being called for. And that's out! Poor Dilshan, trying to get Jayawardene to the hundred and misses out on the chance for his own. Incidentally, Rauf wasn't square on to that, he was standing just forward of square leg

TM Dilshan run out 84 (218m 137b 11x4 0x6) SR: 61.31

Sri Lanka 287/5   DPMD Jayawardene 99* (264b 9x4)   RS Bopara 5.1-0-17-0

99.4

Bopara to HAPW Jayawardene, OUT, Bopara strikes! This is his first Test wicket, and it's a good one, Prasanna has troubled England this series

HAPW Jayawardene c †Prior b Bopara 0 (1m 3b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

Sri Lanka 287/6   DPMD Jayawardene 99* (264b 9x4)   RS Bopara 5.4-0-17-1

143.5

Hoggard to Vaas, OUT, a third short one, Vaas tries to swing the ball over midwicket but gets a top edge ... it goes a long way up, Vaughan at midwicket moves two or three yards forward ... a moment of drama as he fumbles the catch but he snatches it with a grin at the second attempt

WPUJC Vaas c Vaughan b Hoggard 90 (197m 133b 11x4 0x6) SR: 67.66

Sri Lanka 470/7   DPMD Jayawardene 189* (397b 21x4)   MJ Hoggard 30.5-4-115-1

148.5

Collingwood to Malinga, OUT, an ugly swipe, he misses and Collingwood hits with one that drifts into his middle and leg stumps

SL Malinga b Collingwood 5 (26m 16b 1x4 0x6) SR: 31.25

Sri Lanka 499/8   DPMD Jayawardene 213* (411b 25x4)   PD Collingwood 9.5-2-38-1
