Superb innings, though. Yet another big century on his favorite piece of turf.

Great day for Sri Lanka. Mahela hit yet another century on his SSC, Warnapura made his second ton, surviving some tough moments earlier on in his innings, and Samaraweera made batting look very easy and stitched up another ton. This is the first time three centuries have been scored in the first innings of a match at this ground. The Indian fielding was terrible, Karthik being the worst offender and Sri Lanka prospered. So the day two has gone in the hosts favour. Join us tomorrow. Bye.

End of over 120 (1 run) Sri Lanka 422/4

Hi there. Welcome to day 3. Another early start today. Play will begin at 9.45 am.

Pitch: The light roller was used and that has surprised Waqar, who reckons a heavy roller might have opened the cracks for Sri Lanka. The pitch today should be superb for batting and there might be some turn in the last session, adds Waqar.

When will Sri Lanka declare? The question was put to Boycott and Jayasuriya in the television studio. While Boycs says they should declare at lunch, Jayasuriya reckons Mahela will declare after 600 runs, make the follow-on target at least 400 and hope the spinners plus Vaasy can do the damage.

Udaya Atukorale: "This is not the 1st time 3 batsmen have scored three centeries in the same innings at ssc ground. If you recall the Test no 1194, played on 17th August 1992 at the same venue Arjuna Ranatunga, Asanka Gurusinghe and Romesh Kaluvitharana also have achieved the same feat."

No Udaya ... what I wrote was three centuries in the first innings of a match and not of the team. In the game you are referring to, Australia batted first.

Muttiah Muralitharan: The last three years this wicket has been slow. I saw the ball turn but it's a bit slow. India have a good experienced batting line up; they are good against spin. So we have to be patient and bowl at the right areas. It's very good that another spinner (Mendis) has come in, especially considering the batsmen are not picking him. Pressure from both ends. I am very happy how he is bowling. When I started I was not as good as him. He is going to be a great bowler for Sri Lanka, someone who will go on to break records."

Jamie Alter, our man at the ground, has the weather update: "There were a few random drops of rain on the way to the ground, but it has stopped now. There are dark clouds overhead but no sign of the covers." And he adds for some strange reason, "oolllaa laaalaaa leeelooooo". I assure you he is mentally fine ; just has these bursts now and then. He is the son of Tom Alter, the actor, and you know how these actor kids are! Indian fans would know Tom - Junoon Junoon junoon! Pidivatham!

Kumble will start off this morning. Dravid at slip. Gambhir under the helmet at short leg. Laxman at silly point. Mid-off, mid-on. Midwicket. Cover. Deep, deep point. Fine leg.
