India in Sri Lanka ODI Series - 5th ODI

Sri Lanka v India

Sri Lanka won by 112 runs (D/L method)

2.30 pm: It's game time. Sanath Jayasuriya and Malinda Warnapura are Sri Lanka's openers. Munaf Patel will open the attack for India from over the wicket. Today's umpires are Billy Doctrove and Tyron Wijewardene.

"Not much of a crowd, expectedly," says Jamie Alter from Colombo. "Grey clouds overhead."

I'm George Binoy, your commentator for this match.

2.00 pm: A little to late for it to matter in the series but Mahela Jayawardene has finally won the toss and Sri Lanka will bat.

"Finally managed to win one," says Jayawardene. "Hopefully we'll take something out of this game. Sri Lanka have rested Murali, Vaas and Dilshan and brought in Jehan Mubarak, Dilhara Fernando, Mahela Udawatte. They have four openers in the eleven.

Sri Lanka: 1 Sanath Jayasuriya, 2 Malinda Warnapura, 3 Kumar Sangakkara (wk), 4 Mahela Jayawardene (capt), 5 Chamara Kapugedera, 6 Mahela Udawatte, 7 Jehan Mubarak, 8 Nuwan Kulasekara, 9 Thilan Thushara, 10 Ajantha Mendis, 11 Dilhara Fernando.

India have also made a few changes. The players who aren't playing for them are Parthiv Patel, Badrinath, Praveen Kumar and Harbhajan Singh.

India 1 Gautam Gambhir, 2 Virat Kohli, 3 Suresh Raina, 4 Yuvraj Singh, 5 Mahendra Singh Dhoni (capt & wk), 6 Rohit Sharma, 7 Irfan Pathan, 8 RP Singh, 9 Pragyan Ojha, 10 Zaheer Khan, 11 Munaf Patel.

Well the tables have been turned, India will have to chase today. Sri Lanka are without Murali and Vaas though which could make their task less difficult. India's batting order is largely the same with Pathan coming in for Badrinath at No 7. They are playing five bowlers today as opposed to four in the previous two games.

"It's really sad to see Badrinath not given another chance. This was a perfect platform to give him another go and see how he performs. Instead it's Irfan Pathan at his place who doesn't even deserve a place in the ODI squad after his recent performances", says Sumeet.

1.30 pm: Good afternoon and welcome to Cricinfo's coverage of the final match of India's tour of Sri Lanka. The series is already in India's bag after the visitors won the fourth ODI by 46 runs to take a 3-1 lead. Sri Lanka have never lost four ODIs in a row at home and so they will be sufficiently inspired to avoid a fourth defeat on the trot.

The toss will take place in about ten minutes. Mahendra Singh Dhoni has won all four tosses in the series. He admitted to misreading the pitch after India lost the first game but made the correct decision in the second in Dambulla. The decision to bat first after the series shifted to the Premadasa has been a no-brainer. The fast bowlers have moved the ball laterally under lights while the spinners have extracted turn and bounce as the match progresses, making chasing a target significantly harder. Murali and Mendis haven't had the opportunity to defend a score at the Premadasa yet and expect Sri Lanka to stretch India if they do. Read more in the preview of the match.

Lahiru is today's early bird. He writes in to say that "Srilanka should have picked Malinda Warnapura for the previous matches because he played very well in the Test series, and there were very clear facts that he was playing better than Chamara Silva."

Nimali says that Dilshan should be omitted from the Sri Lankan team today.
