Stephen Parry, a left-arm spinner, played for Cumberland in Minor Counties cricket on his way to Lancashire honours and claimed a five-wicket haul on his first-class debut in 2007 against Durham University. With Lancashire not short of left-arm spinners - Gary Keedy and Simon Kerrigan have been above him in the pecking order - Parry's main opportunities have been in one-day and Twenty20 cricket.

Indeed, since that notable debut, the former Academy player has played only two more red-ball matches but, with the departure of Keedy to Surrey, Parry will expect opportunities when conditions favour two spinners or if Kerrigan earns an international call-up.

In one-day cricket, Parry has an impressive record, with 54 wickets in List A matches and 59 in Twenty20 outings. He was called up for the Lions in a 50-over match against India A at Worcester in July, 2010. No mean batsman, he scored a Second XI century in 2011 and captained the Lancashire team that won the Second XI one-day competition in 2012.
