Pakistan in Sri Lanka Test Series - 2nd Test

Sri Lanka v Pakistan

Sri Lanka won by 7 wickets

Overs 0-50

9.58am Well, Pakistan have decided against opening with Malik, it is the debutant Fawad Alam who strides out with Khurram Manzoor. The Sri Lankan fielders also take their positions, and we are all set to go.

9.55am Five minutes to go for the first ball. Salman Butt's exclusion means Shoaib Malik is likely to be pushed up to the opening slot. The last time he opened in a Test was in 2006 at the SSC, making an unbeaten 148 in the second innings.

9.45am Dinesh Asanka from Sri Lanka: "This might be the last chance for Warnapura. He was failing in last few matches though he performed well initially."

Our man at the ground, Sidharth Monga, spoke to the Pakistan captain Younis Khan yesterday. Read it here. Monga was a busy man yesterday, also catching up with the Sri Lankan batsman and stand-in keeper Tillakaratne Dilshan.

Alex9090 from the United States: "People need to stop crying about Razzak. He's been totally Rubbish in test matches for years. His record speaks for it self or rather doesn't speak much!"

Muqi from Australia thinks Pakistan have dropped the wrong opener. "If either of the openers was to be left out, it should have been Manzoor. Butt is more experienced and at least looked good towards the end of day 3 in the previous test. It was just that ridiculous shot that cost him his wicket."

Plenty of people writing in to say legspinner Danish Kaneria should have been included, at least for the experience he brings to the side.

9.40am Ali Khan writes in from Pakistan that it's great to see Fawad Alam included, but he wants Abdul Razzaq also to be in the XI.

Pitch: Ranil Abenayake says that there is some moisture in the pitch, which means there should be some help for the bowlers in the morning, but overall he think this is a great pitch for batting.

9.30am Toss Sangakkara flips the coin, Younis says 'Heads'. Heads it is, and Pakistan decide to bat. One change for the visitors, Salman Butt has been left out, with Fawad Alam taking his place.

Sangakkara says the P Sara pitch traditionally offers some assistance in the first session, and he hopes his bowlers will make the most of that. Sri Lanka are going in with an unchanged XI. Tillakaratne Dilshan is going to be the wicketkeeper again.

9.20am Hello and welcome to Cricinfo's coverage of the second Test between Sri Lanka and Pakistan. This is Siddarth Ravindran, with Raju ensuring our scorecard's updated.

Pakistan's horror morning session on the fourth day in Galle undid their good work of the first three days, and leaves them trailing the series 1-0.

There's still about ten minutes for the toss, in the meantime check out S Rajesh's preview of the game.

Herath to Shoaib Malik, no run, Malik plays the last ball before lunch back towards the bowler

Sri Lankan players shake hands as they leave the field after a dominant first session. There was definitely some help for their new-ball bowlers, but this was not a track on which they would have expected to get six wickets before lunch. Several of the Pakistan batsmen got out to poor strokes, and it'll now need something special if they are to come back into this Test.

The debutant Fawad Alam, who was included as a makeshift opener, looked at ease even when the wickets were falling around him, but was done in by an inswinger from Angelo Mathews. Much of Pakistan's hopes of getting a decent score now rest on Shoaib Malik, who has been pretty solid so far.

Kulasekara was the best of the bowlers in the first session, getting some sharp movement. Thushara also troubled the batsmen with his extra bounce, Mendis didn't really threaten but stifled the runs.

Abdul-Basit Diwan, a Pakistan fan from Canada, asks: "Are we still in the 4th day morning session of 1st Test?".

Syed Tauqeer from the UAE: "Pakistan's batsmen are good players at batting wickets. They cannot play at turning and/or seeming wickets, simply because much of Pakistan's cricket is being played at Cement Concrete tracks where the ball come straight, without any deviation. On these pitches bowlers rely on swing (because no seam movement) thats why Pakistan has good swing bowlers always and poor batsmen who cannot cope with any deviation."

The batsmen make their way in, Rauf still to open his account after 24 deliveries. Kulasekara has the ball
