Pakistan in Sri Lanka ODI Series - 2nd ODI

Sri Lanka v Pakistan

Sri Lanka won by 6 wickets (with 38 balls remaining)

Jamshed and Kamran walk out.

9.55: Good Lord guys the feedback on the Pakistan team selection is overwhelming! Thanks for flooding the inbox. Much appreciated, all the same. Amazing support for Imran Nazir.

Hirantha: "Udawatta made century in the practise match. Tharnga made a duck. But, Tharanga is in the team, Udawatta does not have a place in the Team. What is Asantha de Mel doing?"

9.25am: Good morning and welcome to the coverage of the second ODI in Dambulla. We'll bring you news of the toss and teams very shortly. Seems like a windy morning in Dambulla, slightly overcast but nothing to worry too much about. Enjoy your Saturday morning.

Toss and teams: Sri Lanka have won the toss and they will bowl first. "In Dambulla you never know how the pitch will play." Sri Lanka are unchanged.

Younis smiles through the pain, as usual. Don't ask me how he does it each time. "We know we're struggling," he says with a grin. Ok, the big news is Mohammad Yousuf and Misbah-ul-Haq have been dropped. It's an international debut for Umar Akmal, Kamran's brother. Nasir Jamshed is the only other change. Still no place for Imran Nazir. I was looking forward to him. Better luck next time, perhaps.

Pitch: Different surface from the first game. It hasn't been watered for the last three days, says Ranil Abhinayeke, so it looks quite dry. A score of 225-230 should be very competitive.

Fahad Meer from Canada: 'Younis should wipe the smile off his face and pick the right team. Imran Nazir should be in the side instead of U. Akmal. This is not the time for experiments."

It looks like they don't want to rush Nazir. But it's a brave and positive move to drop Misbah and Yousuf. I said before the first game that the competition for places has shot up, and that has put the seniors on their toes.

Asif backs Younis: "What younis did is exactly right.. he has look at options for future world cup. give chance to people who are in form. if youngsters r not given chance at this stage then they tend to lose focus."

Naveed: "I don't know what people see in Imran Nazir, he has an average of 24.77. That's so horrible, I guess the opposing bowlers will feel sorry for him and go easy on him." Go back a few months to the ICL, Naveed, and you'll know why he's so popular.

0.1

Kulasekara to Nasir Jamshed, OUT, we have a first ball strike! Poor shot by Jamshed, the ball lands outside off and swings away, not sure if Jamshed wanted to leave it in the last minute, he hangs his bat out half-heartedly and tamely chips it to Mahela who cups it above his head at second slip

Jamshed: 'I think swing/seam bowling is always a problem for Pakistani batsman. They have along history of debacles when batting on slightly greenish or sticky or bouncy pitch. In Pakistani conditions the ball seldom swing or seam, pitches are usually suited for batting, batsman are accustomed to these easy batting conditions. Thats why they (batsman) always struggle in Australia, South Africa, England, Sri Lanka. We need to make batsman play on sticky, greenish or perhaps under prepared pitches in Pakistan so that batsman in our first class cricket structure are used to these tough batting conditions. Otherwise I could not see any positive change in batting in future overseas tours."

Malinga to Mohammad Amir, OUT, an under arm flick ends the innings, Aamer drops the ball in front of him and they try to pinch a quick single, Ajmal is struggling to make his ground but Malinga was too quick for him, he under arms the ball on the dive and the third umpire takes a look at the direct hit

Saeed Ajmal run out 16 (33m 23b 1x4 0x6) SR: 69.56

The lower order give batting lessons again to the specialists. But the score of 168 seems quite inadequate at this stage. Pakistan really should have opted for the third Powerplay earlier, when Afridi and Razzaq came together.

1.27pm: This might still be a tricky score if Sri Lanka lose a couple early. It's still very windy and the ball is swinging. Join us in about 30 minutes for the chase.

End of over 47 (8 runs) Pakistan 168/10 (RR: 3.57)
Mohammad Amir    24* (32b 3x4)      SL Malinga    10-0-37-0
