Rain-affected games end in draws

The rain-affected encounter between Dolphins and Knights finally came to a head, with the match finishing on a stalemate. With the first day lost to due to heavy rain, Dolphins resumed from their overnight tally of 206 for 3 on the second day.

Khaya Zondo was not out on 77, while his partner, Cody Chetty resumed on 65. The pair extended their partnership to 157 runs before Zondo was bowled by Quinton Friend on 90.

This brought the wicketkeeper, Morne van Wyk, to the crease, and with Chetty, the pair added a further 30 runs before Chetty also fell on 90, this time caught behind off the bowling of Malusi Siboto. Morne waged on and was able to finish unbeaten on 100, as Dolphins declared on 366 for 6.

A high-scoring encounter between Lions and Warriors, which had five batsmen score centuries, ended in a draw in Potchefstroom.

Lions were propelled in their first innings by a 278-run stand for the third wicket between opener Stephen Cook and Neil McKenzie, which lifted them to 400. Cook's 175 included 27 fours, while McKenzie hit 24 fours and two sixes during his unbeaten 153, as Lions eventually declared after 100.2 overs.

Warriors were buoyed by two centurions of their own - David White who struck 112 and Colin Ingram who made 134. The pair contributed 138 for the third wicket, helping Warriors secure a six-run first-innings lead.

Alviro Petersen was the next to reach triple figures as his 138, along with fifties from Dominic Hendricks and McKenzie, helped Lions set Warriors a daunting 360 to win. However, with little time remaining, a draw was all but sealed.

Warriors made 122 in their second innings, losing three wickets in a little over 30 overs.

Titans and Cape Cobras played out a draw in a rain-affected match in Benoni, in which the entire second day was washed out.

Titans, choosing to bat, put on a fine batting display in the first innings as an unbeaten 105 Shaun von Berg at No. 9, accompanied by fifties from five other batsmen - including Nos. 7 and 8 - helped them to 491 for 7, before they declared after 109.3 overs.

With the match heading towards an inevitable stalemate, Cobras put up 400 for 7 from their 100 overs. The highlight of their innings was a 176-run fourth-wicket stand between Justin Ontong and Stiaan van Zyl, who top-scored with 164.

Shaun von Berg and David Weise picked up three wickets apiece for Titans, while Justin Kemp had been the most effective with the ball for Cobras with a four-for.
