102.2

Sharma to Kallis, 2 runs, gets back and across and cuts hard well to the right of Sachin at sweeper cover

102.3

Sharma to Kallis, 2 runs, pushes this one through towards covers and runs hard. Tendulkar comes in from the deep cover but he can't prevent it. In fact he didn't pick up the cleanly. he has had a poor day on the field today

102.4

Sharma to Kallis, FOUR, Edged but there is just a solitary slip standing very wide. It was a good delivery that straightened outside off and Kallis jabs it off the outer edge. It flies between Dhoni and that wide slip

Sharma to Kallis, no run, stays back to push it to cover

Sharma to Kallis, 1 run, Kallis goes back and across to punch it to deep cover region

That's lunch on day 2. Fabulous efforts from Jacques Kallis and Sreesanth. Kallis walks back with a smiling Tsotsobe. Sreesanth has brought India back in game with a marvellous exhibition of swing and seam bowling. Join us in a while for the second session. It will be one of my colleagues who will bring you the live action.

Right. Kallis on strike. Sree has the ball. Can he produce some more magic? One widish slip in place.

A couple of minutes to the resumption. Enough time to start following @ESPNcricinfo on Twitter. It's the #realthing

Talking of Kallis - What. A. Player. He is the only run machine in the game that also produces wickets. He has Pontinguesue, Dravid-ian numbers, and has taken wickets by the bushel to go with it. The way he batted today, adjusting to shield the tail and reduce the impact on his side strain, has been an absolute treat.

Thanks Sriram. Hello ladies and gentlemen, this is Nitin Sundar to start off commentary for the post-lunch session. It was some morning - Kallis and Prince took off in the first hour before Sreesanth produced some magic with the new ball. Kallis has added some really crucial runs with the tail and, if India do not end this soon, it could prove to be the difference in this match.

104.1

Sreesanth to Kallis, no run, gets the first ball to nip in from outside off as Kallis comes across to play to the offside. It runs off the inside half to the leg side. Kallis takes the top hand off in surprise.

104.2

Sreesanth to Kallis, FOUR, gentle bouncer at gentle pace - 116 kph - doesn't trouble Kallis even though there are two men back for the pull. He bisects deep square leg and fine leg for the first boundary of the session

104.3

Sreesanth to Kallis, no run, extra bounce, Sree gets one to rear up meanly as it darts away from off middle and off. Kallis just manages to fend it to the off side

104.4

Sreesanth to Kallis, no run, another delicate bouncer, easily pulled away by Kallis, but this time he finds the fielder. And refuses the single

104.5

Sreesanth to Kallis, 1 wide, Sree bangs it even shorter and even wider and the umpire stretches the arms out. He'll have to rebowl that

104.5

Sreesanth to Kallis, 1 run, well, Sree continues to out-bounce Kallis, who nearly miscues one to Gambhir at midwicket close in. That was not timed at all and popped up to the left of a tumbling Gambhir who could not snaffle it. The single is taken

104.6

Sreesanth to Tsotsobe, no run, full and outside Tsotso's off stump, he doesn't get in line and fishes as it whizzes past. Half-hearted appeal, rightly turned down

End of over 105 (6 runs) South Africa 341/9
LL Tsotsobe    3* (14b)      S Sreesanth    28-0-105-5
JH Kallis    145* (258b 16x4)      Harbhajan Singh    23-2-70-0

Harbhajan continues. No close in fielders visible.

105.1

Harbhajan Singh to Kallis, no run, ooh, nearly gets him with an offie than almost sneaks in through bat-pad gap. Kallis looked to drive against the spin and the extra spin took the inside edge, which then eluded the stumps

105.2

Harbhajan Singh to Kallis, no run, more like it, Kallis gets across to the pitch and works it with the spin towards mid on

105.3

Harbhajan Singh to Kallis, no run, flatter outside off, Kallis pushes back and defends back down the track

105.4

Harbhajan Singh to Kallis, no run, loopy delivery on middle and off, Kallis eases it with the spin off the pads and refuses the single

105.5

Harbhajan Singh to Kallis, no run, Harbhajan lets out an ambitious appeal as Kallis presses across and gets rapped on the pads as he looks to work it off the legs

105.6

Harbhajan Singh to Kallis, no run, another huge appeal turned down. Harbhajan delivers it full and on off stump, Kallis misses the sweep as it turns in and is struck on the front pad. He was well forward, though. Crucially, the single was not taken. Replays suggest it would have clipped leg, but that is a marginal call

End of over 106 (maiden) South Africa 341/9
JH Kallis    145* (264b 16x4)      Harbhajan Singh    24-3-70-0
LL Tsotsobe    3* (14b)      S Sreesanth    28-0-105-5

106.1

Sreesanth to Tsotsobe, 1 run, Tsotso gets off the strike immediately, the Newlands crowd loves it! Pushes a length ball on off stump into the covers and they are off

106.2

Sreesanth to Kallis, no run, back of a length on off stump, Kallis rides the bounce and punches it confidently into the off side

106.3

Sreesanth to Kallis, no run, shortish length again, Kallis stays back and steers it square and refuses the single

106.4

Sreesanth to Kallis, no run, this one nips in from outside off, Kallis covers the line well and defends to the leg side

106.5

Sreesanth to Kallis, FOUR, Kallis, take a bow! The field comes in for the last couple of balls. What does Kallis do? He flexes his muscles and powers a length ball just outside off through cover-point. Despatched with disdain, this is driving India mad.

106.6

Sreesanth to Kallis, FOUR, Boy, Kallis is unstoppable! He doesn't try to take a single off the last ball. There are three men close in on the off side looking to deny that. Kallis again opens up the off side and smashes it through all of them, who had barely completed their walk-in as it whistled past them and through to the boundary. The force is with South Africa. 350 up.

End of over 107 (9 runs) South Africa 350/9
JH Kallis    153* (269b 18x4)      S Sreesanth    29-0-114-5
LL Tsotsobe    4* (15b)      Harbhajan Singh    24-3-70-0

107.1

Harbhajan Singh to Tsotsobe, 1 run, Newlands erupts as Tsotso picks another single off the first ball. What's worse, Tendulkar has fumbled to let it happen! Tsotso chips out, gets to the pitch and drives feebly towards midwicket. Tendulkar could have denied the single if he had collected cleanly. He did not.

107.2

Harbhajan Singh to Kallis, no run, works one with the spin off the pads towards square leg. He doesn't want the single

107.3

Harbhajan Singh to Kallis, no run, tossed up outside off, Kallis presses across and defends solidly towards the off side

107.4

Harbhajan Singh to Kallis, 1 run, now he takes the single. At least, India won't concede two boundaries off the last two. To Kallis. He clips one with the spin through midwicket and hands it to Tsotso

107.5

Harbhajan Singh to Tsotsobe, no run, sharp spin from outside off, no problem for Tsotso who gets across and defends to the off side

107.6

Harbhajan Singh to Tsotsobe, no run, big turn again for Harbhajan, so much spin that it beats the forward prod and balloons off the pad towards the slips. No bat on that.

End of over 108 (2 runs) South Africa 352/9
LL Tsotsobe    5* (18b)      Harbhajan Singh    25-3-72-0
JH Kallis    154* (272b 18x4)      S Sreesanth    29-0-114-5

Bowling change. Zaheer comes on to lend some stability, if possible, to the proceedings.

108.1

Khan to Kallis, no run, angles the first one across Kallis from over the wicket and gets it to dart away late. Kallis leaves

108.2

Khan to Kallis, no run, fuller ball, makes him play this time. Kallis pushes the front foot forward and defends to the off side

108.3

Khan to Kallis, no run, nifty from Zaheer, gets this one to seam away after landing in line with off stump. Kallis was almost sucked into it, but pulled the bat out. Dhoni fumbles too.

108.4

Khan to Kallis, no run, booming off drive from Kallis, pitched up and he drilled it with the high elbow and admired his own shot. Can't believe you can play such a good shot for no runs - there was long off and he did not want the single

108.5

Khan to Kallis, no run, Zak beats him again outside off with another one that moves away after slanting across. Extra bounce as well, and Kallis was left hanging his bat out in hope. It whizzed past the outside edge

108.6

Khan to Kallis, FOUR, you can set any field you want to Kallis. Right now, it does not matter. He's batting with a side strain. With No. 11. With the field back. Against one of the best fast bowlers in the game now. And he toys with him. Short ball yes, but there is an army of fielders on the leg side boundary to save the pull. Kallis finds a way to elude all of them, essaying the shot a little late to get it square of midwicket, but in front of square leg. A joy to watch.

End of over 109 (4 runs) South Africa 356/9
JH Kallis    158* (278b 19x4)      Z Khan    28-6-86-2
LL Tsotsobe    5* (18b)      Harbhajan Singh    25-3-72-0

109.1

Harbhajan Singh to Tsotsobe, no run, straighter one from Harbhajan, but dropped short enough for Tsotso to spot the deviation and defend to the off side

109.2

Harbhajan Singh to Tsotsobe, no run, he skips out this time and gets to the pitch, and works it with the spin to midwicket. Tendulkar has a shy at the stumps and misses as Kallis was thinking of a single

109.3

Harbhajan Singh to Tsotsobe, 1 run, edged past Laxman at second slip. India are bleeding. Kallis gets strike. The field is spread out

109.4

Harbhajan Singh to Kallis, no run, flighted on middle and off, Kallis gets to the pitch and plays it back to the bowler

109.5

Harbhajan Singh to Kallis, 1 run, this time Harbhajan gives him the single. Kallis pats it from outside off into the vast vacancies in the cover region for one

Five fielders close in.

109.6

Harbhajan Singh to Tsotsobe, no run, and none of them matter. Tsotso gets a good stride across and smothers the offie as it turns in. Safe and sound.

End of over 110 (2 runs) South Africa 358/9
LL Tsotsobe    6* (22b)      Harbhajan Singh    26-3-74-0
JH Kallis    159* (280b 19x4)      Z Khan    28-6-86-2

110.1

Khan to Kallis, 1 run, Kallis drives magestically down the ground, but there is a long on in place. Did Kallis think of taking two? He couldn't - Tsotso to face Zaheer now.

Three slips in place.

110.2

Khan to Tsotsobe, no run, short ball, angling across Tsotso who defends it well off the front foot. Plays it on top of the bounce and softly into the off side

110.3

Khan to Tsotsobe, no run, he's kept out the short ball, he's kept out the full one. Zaheer is looking for the blockhole with a full ball outside off, Tsotso reaches out and defends to the off side

Round the wicket now.

110.4

Khan to Tsotsobe, no run, more accomplished defence from Tsotso. Short ball angling in, in line with off stump. Tsotso rides the bounce and drops it to the off side

Tsotso has doubled his career-best score of 3.

110.5

Khan to Tsotsobe, no run, full ball again, not fast enough to trouble Tsotso who gets on the front foot and punches it back down the track

110.6

Khan to Tsotsobe, 2 runs, take that. Tsotso has driven Zaheer down the ground with the lack of timing perfected by tail-enders and picks up two, as you only can when mid-off is standing too close to stop it.

End of over 111 (3 runs) South Africa 361/9
LL Tsotsobe    8* (27b)      Z Khan    29-6-89-2
JH Kallis    160* (281b 19x4)      Harbhajan Singh    26-3-74-0

111.1

Harbhajan Singh to Kallis, no run, Kallis works Harbhajan with the spin towards the leg side

111.2

Harbhajan Singh to Kallis, no run, tossed up on off, Kallis on-drives with assurance down the ground to long on

111.3

Harbhajan Singh to Kallis, no run, another one clipped off the pads without a problem to the deep. Another single turned down

111.4

Harbhajan Singh to Kallis, no run, tries to slip one down the leg, Kallis tickles it fine, but Dravid is really fine and saves the single

111.5

Harbhajan Singh to Kallis, 1 run, straighter one on middle and off, turning away from Kallis who easily clips it though midwicket to pick the single.

Round the wicket. Fielders close in, everywhere.

111.6

Harbhajan Singh to Tsotsobe, no run, Tsotso leaps out of the crease and nurdles Harbhajan with the spin towards deep square leg. His turn to refuse a single! Kallis on strike for the next over.

End of over 112 (1 run) South Africa 362/9
LL Tsotsobe    8* (28b)      Harbhajan Singh    27-3-75-0
JH Kallis    161* (286b 19x4)      Z Khan    29-6-89-2

112.1

Khan to Kallis, no run, length ball, coming in from off stump. Doesn't bother Kallis who defends down the track

112.2

Khan to Kallis, no run, back of a length, extra bounce outside off, Kallis lets it go

112.3

Khan to Kallis, no run, the fielder at deep extra cover gave enough time for Kallis to pick up two if he wanted. But he didn't. Stands his ground after driving to the deep

112.4

Khan to Kallis, no run, this one nips away off a length, from the middle stump line. Kallis defends off the middle of the bat down the track

112.5

Khan to Kallis, OUT, the agony ends for India. They have finally managed to find a way past Kallis. It must be said, it was more a case of Kallis losing his wicket, in an attempt to manufacture a single out of somewhere. End of a really special innings. That was back of a length, close to off stump and was going away from Kallis, who shaped to cut it fine. He got a thin edge through to Dhoni. Kallis has done his job - the last two wickets have added 79 and South Africa are on top now.

JH Kallis c †Dhoni b Khan 161 (459m 291b 19x4 0x6) SR: 55.32

Sid Talya will take over for the rest of session. Should be an interesting passage of play, beginning with the big battle of the series - Steyn v Sehwag.

Kallis' effort, like Laxman's in the second Test, is a lesson in the art of batting with the tail.At 272 for 7, and again at 283 for 8, India would have been itching to go out and have a bat. Instead, they have seen Kallis make good use of the batsman-friendly conditions for and swelling the score. What can Sehwag and Gambhir do now?

Dhoni, meanwhile has taken a five-for of his own. Five catches behind for the captain.

Kallis now has 389 runs in the series - his highest in a three-match series. And to think he got run out unfortunately, and got the ball of 2010 (arguably) in the two innings in Durban. Staggering. India will hope they won't have to contend with his bowling now, given that he was struggling with a side strain. But don't count him out - I won't be surprised if he's hustling a few bouncers across by the end of the session!
