11.58am: The Pakistan openers make their way out to the middle while the South African fielders assemble in force. It will be Dale Steyn to open the bowling.

Abdul Hayee Bhatti: "What difference would the mandatory power play overs limit make to Pakistan. Misbah made it clear in his interview they would like to see off the ball and then accelerate. With conditions favoring bowlers post rain, they'll be even watchful. I dont see Pakistan crossing 25-30 in the powerplay."

tassavur shaikh: "Allow me to stick my neck out here. There is a danger of rain. Hence the batting team will have to go all guns blazing from the start in case game is interrupted again. Also the moist conditions will favour bowling. SA will have the advantage of knowing what they have to score rather than blindly shooting in the dark. So win win for them."

11.50am: Some bad news for Abdul Razzaq (who was coincidentally the answer to my question earlier) as he was robbed off his passport and other valuables. The full story is here.

11.48am: So the mandatory fielding restrictions at the start of the innings is now 9 overs, while the batting powerplay is still at 5 overs

Faisal Habib: "It was batting which let down SA in previous match. They have only made changes in bowling department. Isn't it strange?"

Ali Mushaf: "By losing the toss, Misbah has been saved by the critics who would have criticized him for his wrong decision whatever it would be."

|Yasar: "Fielding 1st is a poor decision because both Pak & SA are poor chasers, specially in crunch games. Now Pak has a 65% chance!"

Misbah-ul-Haq admits that he wasn't sure what to choose if he had won the toss. He reckons the right thing to do was bat first, but the wicket suggests otherwise. He also believes that Pakistan are better at defending a target with their slew of bowlers. The Pakistan team will be unchanged from the previous match.

AB de Villiers reckons there is a little something in the wicket for the seamers, and that there is some moisture to extract from the surface. He also wants his team to work on their chasing, which has not been up-to-scratch of late. In terms of team changes Lonwabo Tsotsobe will come in for Vernon Philander, while Ryan McLaren will replace Morne Morkel.

11.30am Toss - South Africa have won the toss and have elected to field first.

11.30am So we will have a game after all! And the answer to that previous query is the incomparable Abdul Razzaq, a match-winner in his own right in his hey-day

11.20am It's going to be a 12'o clock start and it will be a 45-overs-a-side match, says Heinz Schenk, a journalist from the Citizen, who is at the ground. He says the rain is not likely to return for the day, so that is a good news.

11.05am There is a pitch inspection going on at the moment and the players are warming up too.

Kalyan Sen: "Mohhamad Yusuf . Highest Scorer at Port Elizabeth ."

amna zahid: "highest scorer from pakistan is shahid afridi :)"

Khan Ji: "Saleem Elahi" salman hassan: "inzamam"

Rao Zeeshan: "I shortened my trip to dubai from muscat from four days to three juse because of this match and check out what Port Elizabeth is doing with me :("

Mujahid : "Better to play Cricinfo Cricket game rather then real cricket game, because there is no rain"

10.40am Time to test out them noggins of yours. Who is Pakistan's highest ODI run-scorer in matches in Port Elizabeth? Send your answers through the commentary feedback option.

HK: "It's 3:30 am here in Ontario, and I have to go to school tomo, so I i"ll be pleased my time wasn't wasted."

10.30am: Still awaiting updates from the ground regarding the toss and when the match will start. Please bear with us. Will be testing your cricket knowlegde in a wee bit.

10.20am: So after the covers were put back on, the ground staff have now once again removed the covers. Hopefully play starts soon..

omar: "Sitting at work, here in London, waiting for the match to start. On the upside, its raining here aswell"

Mohammad IFRAN: "Time to play some FIFA14 on Play Station, will keep an eye on match page here..."

Hassaan: "I usually play a game or two of Fifa"

Imii: "We switch to the other match that is happening between WI and India. :) We don't waste time. @office"

Shafiq Ashraf: "How to pass the time; well won't have to wake up snoring wife and face her wrath, can do the school run myself now....."

Arman Khan: "I get back to my work :P"

@ Saeed Khattak - Good man. Tim Hortons has the best coffee in the world. Ice Capps are the only way to go. Please tell me they have those Timbits as well?

Saeed Khattak: "Well, I go to Tim Hortons, get an Ice Cappuccino along with bagel and sit at their outside covered area where I can view the whole Sheikh Zayed Road(Dubai). When I get to know the match is being started.... I rush back to my TV Launch :)"

Awais Malik: "Sitting in the office while waiting for the match...oh God Please stop the rain can't wait anymore for this match :(Cricket is on my mind...."

Safferabroad: "I watched many matches at the old St.Georges Park, before it was redeveloped. One of my greatest pleasures was being there on the last few times Graeme Pollock played. What an honour, what a genius. I remember one glorious shot where Pollock leant gently forward and hit the ball with such perfect timing that the fielder at cover didn't even see the ball go past. I don't think anyone on the ground saw the ball until it smacked against the boundary boards. Just for those who don't know, PE weather can be a bit odd. But wishing you all a great day and come on SA!!!!!"

10.10am So what do you do when there is a delayed start to the match? How do you best whittle away the time? Would love to hear your creative responses via our feedback option!

Mr. I know Everything: "Sleepless in San Francisco. Put the kids (and wife) to bed, dishes done, and just sat down to watch the game, only to get disappointed :o) I hope there is a game today...even if it's reduced to T-20. We are cricket Junky. We'll take anything we can get."

Muahmmad Razi Khan: "Pakistan should bat 1st after wining the Toss Misbah should come at One down position. Because at wet pitch a batsman with good defense is the requirement. Nasir Jamshed should be played because left right combination is always be handy. Hafeez should play at No. 5 because he can play well in middle overs of spinners"

Shafiq Ashraf: "Hi from Edinburgh, typical, much anticipated match and it's raining! Here's hoping for another good performance from Pakistan. Agree that Akmal has to bat higher and Prof lower hopefully Nasir will come good today. Really excited to see if the 2 newbies perform again."

10.03am: Cricket South Africa just tweeted the following: Match officials say 11:45 (in an hour and 45 min from now) is the earliest possible start barring any more rain interference but they still need to inspect the pitch.

Sifiso : "Rain can be a real party pooper. I am up in Joburg and it's warm with clear skies. In short the "perfect day" for cricket. If only PE..."

muzi: "Virat & Umar Akmal made their debut almost at same time. but virat k has gone long ahead of him. I think pakistan should play U akmal at 3 instead of hafiz in all circumstances. They should at least try it for 10 to 15 ODI's"

Mr. Ask: "How hilarious it's: On the top it shows: "Match delayed by rain" but under that it shows: "Match begins in: 0:04". Come on Cricinfo, don't play with our emotions :D."

Awais Sohrab: "Good Morning from Toronto, Canada. It is nearing 3 am and such a downer to know the rain taking place in Port Elizabeth after waiting for all day long. Anyhow, it is snowing here in Toronto :) ."

A.Majid: "Pakistan should go unchanged today..! just send Afridi at Hafeez's place and Hafeez at Afridi's..! This should defineatly work cause Afridi has always scored big when played up the order and yeah Bilawal Bhatti has a good talent with the bat too so why not try him at number 5 pushing Umar Amin at his place in case of a match finishing need!"

9.55am: The latest from the ground is that they have taken off the covers, and it looks like we will be having a toss soon. Nothing official yet, but will update you once we are certain.

9.54am In other news, there is a big event at the ground (outside of the match, of course) as the Centenary Pavilion is being renamed as the Graeme Pollock Pavilion, in honour of the highly-talented South African southpaw, whose Test career was robbed during South Africa's isolation from the cricket world in Apartheid times.

9.50am: While we wait for updates from the ground, why not take in Firdose Moonda's preview of today's match? Having one the previous rubber, Pakistan have a glorious chance of sealing this one as well to take the series, so definitely some motivation for them there. South Africa, on the other hand, now face a must-win scenario for the two remaining matches. Hashim Amla has had some form troubles of his own which have been detailed by Ms. Moonda.

Nahim Abas: "Its always baffeled me as to why cricket grounds around the world cannot invest in a single big cover which can cover the whole of the ground within 2 minutes of any rain intervention, this way there will be minimum usage of super sopper and play can restart very quickly after the rain has stopped.Like the way they operate in Sri Lanka.Surely this area needs to be looked at by the ICC and should be made mandatory accross the board."

Dr.Tam: "Just before the commencement of the series, two veteran Pakistan Allrounders Malik and Razzaq were sent home. The two surprise inclusions Anwar and Bhatti proved to be the match winners....what a blessing in disguise."

Muhammad Rashid: "This is the time for Pakistan to make sure the series in favor of them. Just go with their natural game having sense of responsibility as well. Muhammad Hafiz needs to go with his natural game without fear of Styne even go aggressively against him."

Shaheer: "I think Pak not need to change the team combination... They Just need direct swap to Hafees to Umar Akmal..."

Navs: "This is 500th ODI of SA, Well done."

9.40am Still no toss update yet from the ground.. We are awaiting word from our person on the ground as to when we can expect it to be taken, it if will in the next little while..

Abdul Haseeb: "I think Asad Shafiq should be played in place of Nasir Jamshed as opener because Shafiq likes to bat up the order and Nasir Jamshed is not in good form either and Muhammad Hafeez should be shifted down to Number #6. I think there's no problem at trying Muhammad Hafeez at different positions and Umar Akmal should be given chance at Number 3 At place of Hafeez."

Mr. Ask: "Wet Port Elizabeth - seriously? I hate to see teams losing under D/L method. Let's hope for a 100-overs-match."

Asim: "Pakistani batsmen should perform well in this match to win maiden series and this will increase confidence of team before T20 World Cup"

azhar: "what's your perception for today's match. can Pakistan will win and win maiden odi series against protease"

Atif Mughal: "Misbah if you have won toss so please chose to Bat please can't look weather"

SHAKIL: "In todays match some reshuffle is need in Pak batting line up. Drop Jamshad and bring Asad Shafiq as an opener with shehzad, because he is better technical batsman than Jamshad.bring umar Akmal as one down and send hafeez at No.6. Akmal too have better technic than Hafeez In this way Pak can save Hafeez from Steyn who is a permanent customer of him in the recent past time."

Mr. Ask: "Would be heart-breaking to see this match being abandoned by the rain! Come on Port Elizabeth, ask your weather to be sunny!"

Ali Mushaf: "Bilawal & Anwar has not only given tough time to SA but they have triggered competition in the Pak team itself. Seniors would be under great pressure to perform in this match. Their performance showed that the conditions and all other factors are pseudo excuses."

9.30am So the latest update from the ground is that the covers are still on and it is still drizzling in Port Elizabeth. Will keep you abreast of the latest developments as and when they come. Still no sign of the toss being taken any time soon...

33.5

Imran Tahir to Misbah-ul-Haq, OUT, Tahir strikes as Misbah, looking to glance a length delivery going down the leg side, ends up getting a soft edge on it, with de Kock doing well to move and get into position just behind to capture the rebound off the bat. Keeper and bowler are convinced they have got their man, and the umpire confirms it soon after. Scenes of joy and jubilation from the South Africans. This is a massive wicket as Misbah has been remarkably consistent this year.

Tsotsobe to Umar Akmal, 1 run, back of a length and Akmal able to glance this off his hips to the leg side, playing it with soft hands

34.6

Tsotsobe to Ahmed Shehzad, OUT, what is happening out there? Shehzad looks to ease this back of a length ball down to mid-on, but Akmal is rooted at the non-strikers, guilty of ball-watching. Shehzad is almost at the other end when he sees Tahir swoop on the ball, and is unable to make it back in time for the throw as de Kock collects it and then whips off the the bails, with Shehzad well short. What a way to shoot yourself in the foot, and Umar Akmal will be feeling guilty as the run was on, despite the risk

35.1

Steyn to Umar Akmal, no run, begins with a full one right on target, which is defended quite comfortably

35.5

Steyn to Shahid Afridi, no run, what a beauty from Steyn! Afridi hangs his bat as this one just shapes away off a length and to the keeper

35.6

Steyn to Shahid Afridi, 1 leg bye, this one steaming to the leg side as Afridi looks to glance behind square, but instead the ball hits the pads. The pair run two, but AB and Steyn are adamant it was out. Even the commentators have weighed in saying it just might be out.

36.2

McLaren to Umar Akmal, FOUR, see, this is how you do it. Similar delivery as the one to Afridi, except this time Umar fetches a four with a crisp cover drive that leaves the fielders frozen in their stance

36.3

McLaren to Umar Akmal, no run, width offered and Umar looks to cut this away behind point, but finds the fielder

Noman Aziz: "Very typical of Pak. Wickets always fall in bunches. Why cant we have 2-3 consecutive partnerships in a game? As for Afridi, he doesn't think its his job to make runs - he still bats for fun after 16 years of cricket! Good luck reaching 220!"

36.4

36.5

37.3

Naveed Ahmad Rana: "Pakistan team have not more players Like Umer Akmal and Ahmad Shahzad... they have to build a 80+ Patnership"

37.4

37.5

37.6

Steyn to Umar Akmal, 1 run, Umar looking to be cute by just edging this behind to third man, but misses the ball, with the ball just shaving the off stump. The keeper must have been surprised it didn't hit the bat or timber as he spills the take, with the batsmen running one. Not called a bye so must have hit the edge

38.6

McLaren to Shahid Afridi, 1 run, length ball just outside off as Afridi plays this with soft hands, allowing the pair to run a risky single. McLaren runs with Umar, and kicks the ball towards the striker's stumps, but misses

Michael Cousins: "McLaren having an absolute mare. 60 off 8 overs!! Time to sit down, son."

39.4

Steyn to Umar Akmal, 1 run, little shorter from Steyn as Umar pulls this away to the leg side

39.5

Steyn to Shahid Afridi, OUT, wide outside off and Afridi, looking to guide this past the slips, instead guides it to the slip, with Steyn over the moon. Only reason this could be construed a big wicket is if he let loose in the end overs, which he is capable off. But South Africa have remedied that prospect quite well

40.3

Kallis to Bilawal Bhatti, no run, play and a miss from Bhatti. Umar asking him to not get rooted and look for an opportunity to rotate the strike

SMH: "Should've sent Bilawal Bhatti in to bat before Afridi. Pakistan never learns."

40.4

Kallis to Bilawal Bhatti, 2 runs, back of a length and shaping down the leg side as Bilawal is able to find the gap between square for two runs

40.5

Kallis to Bilawal Bhatti, 1 run, played to point for a single, giving Umar the final ball of the over

40.6

Kallis to Umar Akmal, no run, fires in a yorker which nullifies any scoring option for Umar, as Bilawal will have to front up for the next over. Umar looking slightly dejected as he realises this

41.2

42.5

Steyn to Bilawal Bhatti, FOUR, Bhatti doesn't care for reputations as he flat bats Steyn over mid-off to the fence. Didn't time this at all, but hit it powerfully enough to escape the clutches of a diving mid-of

42.6

Steyn to Bilawal Bhatti, OUT, but it is Steyn who has the last laugh as Bhatti, looking to mow one down the ground, instead gets a thick outside edge which carries behind to the keeper. Steyn to Anwar Ali, OUT, another huge play and miss by Anwar, but they are able to run the bye. Steyn complains about Anwar running on the pitch, but on second glance it may just be that he was appealing for obstruction of the field, as de Kock's throw was blocked when Anwar had changed direction, with the ball hitting his left shoulder. Anwar must have seen it out of his peripheral vision as he changes direction slightly to get in the way. The umpire has deemed it to be out. Been a while since I saw a dismissal in this manner

Steyn to Umar Akmal, OUT, and just as I finish typing that last explanation, Steyn has got Umar Akmal to edge a full delivery outside off to the keeper. Third umpire has been called on to deliberate, and the final decision is that it is out. There was definitely a sound as it hit the face of the bat. And with that Pakistan are all out for 262, even though they lasted the full length of the 45-over innings. The main statistic you need to worry about is Shehzad and Maqsood's 124-run stand for the third wicket, which at one point threatened to determine the very course of the match as South Africa looked unpenetrative with the ball. But Steyn came back in only the way he can, ripping out six wickets in a whole, which is the first time he has ever done so in an ODI. Pakistan will be pleased with their effort though as they added some much-needed runs at the end to create a contest for the home team. Do join us in about 40 minutes time for the South African reply.
