Pakistan in South Africa Test Series - 1st Test

South Africa v Pakistan

South Africa won by 211 runs

Overs 1-50  | Overs 51-100

18.3

Junaid Khan to Petersen, OUT, there's the breakthrough, Junaid has been the best of the bowlers today, and gets his reward, short of length ball from round the stumps, that square up Petersen, who was looking to play it towards the leg side but it loops to third slip instead, plenty of bounce for Junaid, Petersen walks soon after Pakistan appeal, a wicket Pakistan desperately needed

AN Petersen c Mohammad Hafeez b Junaid Khan 20 (91m 53b 2x4 0x6) SR: 37.73

South Africa 46/1   GC Smith 24* (58b 2x4)   Junaid Khan 7.3-3-5-1

19.1

Umar Gul to Smith, OUT, there's another one! this session has changed, and Smith's big day doesn't result in a big score for him, that was pitched up and nipped away, Smith looks to play if off the front foot towards mid-on, an outside edge through to the keeper, Smith is gone for 24

GC Smith c †Sarfraz Ahmed b Umar Gul 24 (96m 59b 2x4 0x6) SR: 40.67

South Africa 46/2   HM Amla 0* (3b)   Umar Gul 7.1-0-19-1

39.4

Umar Gul to Kallis, OUT, what a catch that is, and what an uncharacteristic way for Kallis to go, another short ball from Gul, Kallis goes for the pull, gets a bit of a top edge, immediately there is a shout of 'Catch,' Asad Shafiq had to move to his left at deep midwicket, he's at full stretch as he dives to pouch that massive wicket for Pakistan, that was a screamer from Shafiq

JH Kallis c Asad Shafiq b Umar Gul 50 (82m 78b 9x4 0x6) SR: 64.10

South Africa 125/3   HM Amla 28* (49b 5x4)   Umar Gul 12.4-1-29-2

45.3

Younis Khan to Amla, OUT, oh my goodness, Younis has done it, Amla has thrown it away, innocuous bat well outside off, Amla goes after it hard, slashes it firmly but another superb catch, this time from Azhar Ali, who reacts real quick to clasp that one at gully, he didn't much time to snap that overhead chance, results in another huge wicket, not like Amla to give it away like that

HM Amla c Azhar Ali b Younis Khan 37 (112m 67b 6x4 0x6) SR: 55.22

South Africa 135/4   AB de Villiers 1* (17b)   Younis Khan 0.3-0-0-1

70.1

Mohammad Hafeez to de Villiers, OUT, whoah, and what an impact he's made, a wicket first up, de Villiers tries to force a ball towards point but edges it through to the keeper, Misbah's bowling changes working like magic today, there definitely was an edge this time, perhaps de Villiers should have taken his chances on Hot spot and reviewed that decision

AB de Villiers c †Sarfraz Ahmed b Mohammad Hafeez 31 (124m 84b 3x4 0x6) SR: 36.90

South Africa 199/5   F du Plessis 33* (81b 2x4)   Mohammad Hafeez 0.1-0-0-1

78.2

Junaid Khan to du Plessis, OUT, what a strange dismissal that is, du Plessis had an eternity to make sure that ball doesn't roll back on to the stumps, he wasn't aware though where the ball was and it spins back to hit the stumps, du Plessis first played what he thought was a solid forward defensive, and he didn't bother to see where the ball was, he was busy holding the pose, it came off the bottom of the bat and it bounced up and sneaked behind him, once again a bowling change from Misbah brings immediate results, yet another south Africa batsman gets in and doesn't make a big score

F du Plessis b Junaid Khan 41 (131m 107b 2x4 0x6) SR: 38.31

South Africa 232/6   D Elgar 23* (23b 3x4 1x6)   Junaid Khan 16.2-7-32-2

81.6

Mohammad Hafeez to Peterson, OUT, Hafeez has done it again, he has this knack of taking wickets when the left-handers are on strike, this one is on a length pitching just outside off, Peterson thinks this will spin away and decides to leave that one, bad move, that slides on and takes the top of off stump, and the decision to give Hafeez a few deliveries with the new ball also pays off, nothing Misbah can do wrong today (except DRS)

RJ Peterson b Mohammad Hafeez 0 (17m 11b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

South Africa 239/7   D Elgar 26* (34b 3x4 1x6)   Mohammad Hafeez 6-1-13-2

83.1

Mohammad Hafeez to Elgar, OUT, Hafeez strikes once more, another left-hander, that was slipping down the leg side, tickled through by Elgar, nicely taken by sarfraz who has had a good day behind the stumps, two wickets to go, will Pakistan get to bat today?

D Elgar c †Sarfraz Ahmed b Mohammad Hafeez 27 (54m 40b 3x4 1x6) SR: 67.50

South Africa 240/8   VD Philander 0* (1b)   Mohammad Hafeez 6.1-1-13-3

83.6

Mohammad Hafeez to Steyn, 1 run, OUT, on off stump, tucked towards square leg, and there's a run-out, South Africa are imploding here, horror running there, both batsmen didn't exactly sprint through the first run, Philander initially wanted the second, Steyn was hesitant, some more Yes and No before Philander has to turn back, much too late, and that was a spot-on throw from the deep as well, right over the stumps, the keeper takes off the bails

VD Philander run out 1 (11m 2b 0x4 0x6) SR: 50.00

South Africa 243/9   DW Steyn 2* (4b)   Mohammad Hafeez 7-1-16-3

85.2

Mohammad Hafeez to Morkel, OUT, Hafeez gets this fourth wicket, crazy figures of four for 13, again Hafeez gets the ball to skid on, Morkel looking for the turn and that slides between bat and pad, Morkel is bowled and South Africa are bowled out for 253, that's not a terrible score from South Africa, though they would have certainly wanted more when they decided to bat on winning the toss.

M Morkel b Mohammad Hafeez 0 (7m 2b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

South Africa 253/10   DW Steyn 12* (10b 1x4 1x6)   Mohammad Hafeez 7.2-1-16-4
