Pakistan in South Africa T20I Series - 2nd T20I

South Africa v Pakistan

Pakistan won by 95 runs

So we are ready to roll now. Nasir Jamshed with Shahzad today. Kyle Abbott to start. Two slips in place.

Another incentive for teams to win this match is a sure-shot advance in T20 rankings: Whoever wins today will go up to Number 3 in ICC T20 Rankings. Currently, SA are at five while Pakistan are at six.

Sameer: "In USA cenral its 6:20 here now. i just got up to watch the game. But i had a dream before i got up. Pak won the toss and elected to bat . and they scored 177. malik and afridi having good batting performance. hopefully it goes that way!!" You have been proven 30% right till now, we'll check the power of your dream in 2 hours from now.

Fahad: "If Sameer could go back to sleep and possibly finish his dream and let us know who wins then we can all go have a sweeet nap :D"

2.00 pm: Pakistan win the toss and they will bat first. Faf du Plessis says he was going to bowl first anyway as he expects some rain later today. He says every one should watch out for Abbott today. Firdose Moonda predicts it is going to rain by 4.30 pm. She is generally right about these things. For the moment, there is beer and BBQ keeping everyone occupied.

Brett Step: "Looked out the window and can see the change in weather. Good luck to the team batting second. No choking!"

Serge: "Dont Pakistan check the weather forecast?"

Mustafa Kathawala: "Writing in from Singapore where it rains, well, pretty much everyday. Surprisingly completed two competitive games worth 140 overs in total over the weekend. Moral: centurion, buck up." He further adds, "Wonder how a toss wining captain feels after he elects to bat and other captain says "I would've bowled anyway"."

A lot of messages pouring in in support of Shahid Afridi. He is also back in the ODI squad and would hope for some runs here today.

Asad Tirmizi: "OK, seen enough of the pitch drop experiment now. Pitch looks solid after 50 hrs of rolling, and pitch actually does look solid, but is in fact liquid." Patience Asad, people have been waiting since 2001 for the pitch to drop, and it drops once in every 12 years, so it could actually happen any time.

Adrian: "Regarding the pitch-drop experiment, I have read that ancient glass (such as found in centuries-old buildings) is similarly merely a VERY viscous liquid rather than a solid. In some medieval buildings, the panes in windows are noticiably thicker at the bottom than the top."

Gonzo: "The pitch drop experiment is a good way of predicting Afridi's performances - every time a drop falls he produces a match-winning effort."

Pitch looks rock solid after 50 hours of rolling, says Mike Haysman in his report. 50 hours!! For a match that lasts less than four hours! Well that is some new information for me, my learning for the day. No grass at all on that pitch.

Raja Shahid: "Todays Match is very important for Pakistan to gain some confidence "IF" they win, for the upcoming one day series."

The last match was washed out and so this match is a virtual final for the Twenty20 trophy. Welcome to our coverage of the second T20 in Centurion. We are 45 minutes away from the start and here is Vishal Dixit's preview. Firdose Moonda is at the ground and she says it's nice and sunny at the moment, but it will be stormy later. She says it is always like that in Centurion. I just hope they finish the game before that storm comes in.

Long 40 mins these, time to entertain ourselves with the good old pitch-drop experiment. If it drops today, please let me know because I won't be keeping an eye on this.

Abbott to Shoaib Malik, 1 run, fuller delivery on off, the batsman tries to go downtown, but doesn't get the timing and he hits it along the ground to mid-off

15.6

Abbott to Mohammad Hafeez, 1 wide, bowls it wide outside off, and the batsman misses as he has moved outside leg. But it is again called a wide, harshly so

15.6

Abbott to Mohammad Hafeez, 1 run, attempts a slower delivery, but it is a low full-toss outside off, it is driven hard to deep cover

End of over 16 (11 runs) Pakistan 168/3 (RR: 10.50)
Mohammad Hafeez    84* (48b 9x4 4x6)      KJ Abbott    3-0-31-0
Shoaib Malik    7* (4b 1x4)      CH Morris    3-0-32-1

Ahsan: "what you need is a colour-filter-contact-lense for Mohammad Hafeez which turns red into white and he'll be fine in tests"

Hamy Man: "Its a batting pitch don't be so happy, we will be smashed around as well."

16.1

Kleinveldt to Mohammad Hafeez, no run

16.2

Kleinveldt to Mohammad Hafeez, 2 runs, length delivery on off, it is carved towards deep point and the batsmen get back quickly for the second

Round the wicket

16.3

Kleinveldt to Mohammad Hafeez, OUT, bowls full outside off, and the batsman somehow gets under it and slams it over covers for a boundary. He slid as he played that shot as well. OH NO! His backfoot has slipped a long way and it has disturbed the stumps. What a horrible way to get out after such a super innings. Well played Hafeez, but Misbah holds on to the highest T20 score by a Pakistani batsman

Mohammad Hafeez hit wicket b Kleinveldt 86 (65m 51b 9x4 4x6) SR: 168.62

Boom Boom time!

16.4

Kleinveldt to Shahid Afridi, 1 run, length ball on off, he taps it back towards the bowler, comes running down the pitch, but bowler get there and throws it back at stumps, misses target and the batsman runs overthrows. Not the best way to get off the mark

16.5

Kleinveldt to Shoaib Malik, OUT, caught at short third-man! And now Malik falls. He tries to steer the short of length delivery between backward point and short third man, but the ball comes slow at him and mucks up his timing as he ends up just guiding it straight to the fielder

Shoaib Malik c Miller b Kleinveldt 7 (15m 5b 1x4 0x6) SR: 140.00

Very useful dot balls here.

16.6

Kleinveldt to Kamran Akmal, no run, it is on the pads, and Kamran is unable to get it away. The ball hits him and rolls towards the keeper

End of over 17 (3 runs) Pakistan 171/5 (RR: 10.05)
Kamran Akmal    0* (1b)      RK Kleinveldt    3-0-20-2

Tabrez: "Welcome to the shortest period in the shortest version of the game @Shahid Afridi at the Crease"

17.1

Morris to Shahid Afridi, 1 run, full delivery outside off, it is punched down to long-on for a single

17.2

Morris to Kamran Akmal, 1 run, length ball on the middle and leg line, it is tucked to deep midwicket off the back foot

OK Cheema: "And the legacy continues for Pakistan whenever the top order performs we are let down by the middle order."

naveen: "Pakistan have had enough..Time for the routine self-destruction mode..Hit wicket - self-destruction..Literally !"

17.3

Morris to Shahid Afridi, no run, short ball, it is quick and it goes over the shoulder and towards the leg side. Not called a wide. Strange call by the umpire

17.4

Morris to Shahid Afridi, no run, another short ball, this time it is a good one. Afridi goes for the hook shot anyway but misses it completely

17.5

Morris to Shahid Afridi, 1 run, he makes room by moving outside leg, but the ball is full outside off. Afridi manages to steer it to deep point

17.6

Morris to Kamran Akmal, OUT, caught at deep cover! It is a slower ball outside off, the batsman has to generate his own power as he looks for a six, but it goes as far as the deep cover area. I guess it was the pressure of not scoring much in this over.

End of over 18 (3 runs) Pakistan 174/6 (RR: 9.66)

Sohaib: "Last tym I watched ontong bowl he got inzi Hitwicket and now he's playing today and another Hitwicket.... and it's inzis bday today...well weird"

18.1

Kleinveldt to Shahid Afridi, 1 run, length ball, touch slower outside off, it is driven hard to long-off for a single

18.2

Kleinveldt to Umar Gul, no run, a slower leg cutter beats the batsman's outside edge as he comes forward to push that to cover

Ahmed: "I am watching a match where Shahid Afridi's strike rate is less than 100 where all other batsman have a strike rate greater than 100 .. Oh well, there is always Kamran Akmal."

18.3

Kleinveldt to Umar Gul, 1 run, another slower ball, full on off stump, it is pushed to cover for a single

18.4

Kleinveldt to Shahid Afridi, FOUR, spots the slower ball early and clubs it with awesome power towards cow corner. Davids gets and gets a hand to it, but the momentum on the ball carries it through

18.5

Kleinveldt to Shahid Afridi, 1 run, this one outside off and the batsman gets a thick outside edge to third man for a single

18.6

Kleinveldt to Umar Gul, no run, and another slower ball, it is a leg cutter. Gul goes across the line and misses. Some anti climax this after all that hitting

End of over 19 (7 runs) Pakistan 181/6 (RR: 9.52)
Umar Gul    1* (3b)      RK Kleinveldt    4-0-27-2

19.1

Abbott to Shahid Afridi, FOUR, slower delivery on off, it is a low full toss and Afridi loves it. He bludgeons this over the bowler's head for a one-bounce four

Round the wicket

19.2

Abbott to Shahid Afridi, FOUR, bowls it full and fast on off stump, but Afridi gets and inside edge fine on the leg side. The short fine leg fielder seems to have it covered but he makes a hash of it while going for a slide

19.3

Abbott to Shahid Afridi, 1 run, full and fast on the middle stump line, it is pushed towards long on for a single

Back over the wicket

19.4

Abbott to Umar Gul, OUT, caught at deep midwicket! And they keep finding the fielders in the deep. It was a slower ball outside off, Gul goes across the line but top-edges that one. It goes miles in the air but doesn't get much distance. The fielder from deep midwicket runs around and takes it comfortably

Umar Gul c Behardien b Abbott 1 (7m 4b 0x4 0x6) SR: 25.00

19.5

Abbott to Shahid Afridi, 4 leg byes, he goes for the sweep, Afridi, and it goes between the keeper and the short fine leg fielder for another boundary

19.6

Abbott to Shahid Afridi, 1 run, can he get the last ball out of the ground, no he can't. The yorker is dug out towards mid-off and it's just a single

Some hitting it was earlier by the top-order batsmen. Both the openers started in a frenetic manner and then it was all about Mohammad Hafeez who scored 86 off 51. While he was on, it looked like Pakistan were going to get around 220, but a flurry of wickets towards the end meant it was only 195. I say only, but 195 is a tall total and it wouldn't be an easy chase for South Africa.

akhter: "what happened to somebody's dream, Malik made a mess of it"

James: "Pakistan have fallen well short of where they should've been. SA must fancy their chances on such a high scoring wicket. It will be interesting to see if the Pakistan bowling can do anything to contain a powerful SA batting line up."

Ahmed: "Its just the second time Pakistan has scored 190+ against an opposition other than Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. The other was in World T20 Semi-final in 2010 when Pakistan was Hussey-ed!!!"

End of over 20 (14 runs) Pakistan 195/7

Saeed Ajmal    0* (0b)      RK Kleinveldt    4-0-27-2
