Malinga to Amla, no run, Amla is nicely behind the line this time as Malinga slings it in at 137 kph. Back of a length, true bounce and solid defence.

Malinga to Amla, 1 run, did we speak too soon about the carry? Malinga goes fuller this time, on leg and middle and gets the ball to curl away. Amla gets squared up, and outside edges it towards slip. It lands well short, sort of a soft edge.

Malinga to Smith, 2 runs, Smith is away, Malinga straightens one from outside off as Smith leans across and steers it behind point for a couple.

Malinga to Smith, 2 runs, another couple. Smith stays back and steers another short of length ball. This time it angled across him, and he guided it without a fuss.

Malinga to Smith, no run, this one holds its line, Smith defends towards cover off the front foot.

Malinga to Smith, 2 runs, hustles him with pace and carry. Smith shapes for an expansive cover punch from the back foot - too ambitious, since Malinga is through him from a short of good length. The ball goes off the outside edge, wide of first slip.

Malinga to Smith, OUT, got him this time! Malinga gets even more niggardly with the width this time, making Smith's choice of stroke look that much poorer. Once again, it bursts through from short of a length as Smith tries to force it to the off side. A thin edge this time, loops up at pace to the left of Sanga, who takes it superbly as he tumbles across. K' Naan blares on the PA system as Smith walks back. Are the SL fans waving their flags?

South Africa 18/1   SL Malinga 3-0-12-1

Malinga to Kallis, no run, Huge moment! LBW appeal turned down, and Sri Lanka consider using their review. Will they? Yes they will. Malinga got that to straighten from a leg stump line, but was it doing enough? First replays suggest it didn't. Landed on leg and sliding down. Sri Lanka are out of reviews. A touch harsh, I'd say, to give the teams just one review per innings.

Malinga to Kallis, 1 run, Malinga says hello to the blockhole for the first time today. Not much pace on it, and Kallis hauls it out and plays to the leg side.

Malinga to Amla, no run, another yorker, Malinga produces these at will. He has yorkers up his sleeve and in his pockets. Amla digs it out this time.

Malinga to Amla, 2 runs, Amla has 50, this has been a curate's egg of an innings, but it's looking increasingly better. Full again from Malinga, Amla gets it down to fine leg for two.

Malinga to Amla, 1 run, very low full toss at good pace. It ends up on the pads, and Amla whips it behind square.

Malinga to Kallis, FOUR, it failed him there, alright. Kallis gets stuck into a length ball as he looks to launch it out of town. The ball wasn't too full, and Kallis ended up shovelling it off the inner half though he held the pose to show the full face of the bat. The ball runs over mid-on for four.

Malinga to Kallis, no run, another near yorker, Kallis plays it down the track. Can't quite get under it.

Malinga to Kallis, FOUR, Kallis, you beaut. Malinga gives him just enough width, and Kallis knew where the gap was. He pushed the front foot down instead of across and blasted it through the covers for four.

Malinga to Kallis, FOUR, two class shots from Kallis have made a good over end up looking quite poor. Another drill through the the cover and mid-off gap as Malinga over-pitches. The ball streaks away in haste.

Malinga to JA Morkel, SIX, stand and deliver. Open the front leg and heave over long on, a great strike that sails for six

Malinga to JA Morkel, OUT, have another go...but this time finds the man at long on. It was again an opening of the leg side by clearing the front leg but the connection was nowhere near what was required to clear the rope and a good catch to long on coming in off the rope and taking the catch low down

JA Morkel c Mathews b Malinga 25 (21m 17b 1x4 2x6) SR: 147.05

Malinga to Amla, OUT, now Amla goes. A wide length ball tries to be cut but produces an edge to Sangakkara who tumbles away to his left to take a good catch.
