Wisden obituary
Sir John Heathcoat-Amory, Bart, died at his home at Knightshayes Court, Tiverton on November 22, aged 78. As JH Amory, he was in the Eton XI in 1912-13 and captain in his second year. In both matches with Harrow at Lord's he was on the winning side. He played a few games for Oxford in 1914, and after service in the Great War appeared regularly for Devon until 1932. He was captain for seven seasons and was selected for the Minor Counties in representative matches. Tall and strong, he was a very good fast bowler and as a forcing middle-order batsman scored a couple of centuries for Devon. His heir is his younger brother - Viscount Amory, former Chancellor of the Exchequer
