Edward Hale was a rarity in that he was a Hambledon player born and raised in the village. His father, a local surgeon and farmer, built a house behind the George Inn, and Edward played for the club from 1784 but did not become a member until 1789. A keen sportsman, he kept a pack of harriers.
Plus: most runs in a Test by a New Zealander, and c&b by the same bowler twice in a Test
