Free State were battling hard in the follow-on against Gauteng, reaching the close on 173 for 1, with Riel de Kock on 65 and Benjamin Hector on 23, having been bowled out for 125 in their first innings. Earlier, Gauteng took their overnight score of 316 for 4 to 402 for 6 before the mandatory declaration after 85 overs. Douglas Gain was run out for 100 and Diaan van Wyk was bowled for 96 after putting on 171 for the fifth wicket. In Free State's reply, Ryan Reeves top-scored with 32 and Heinrich le Roux and Johnson Mafa took three wickets each. In total contrast the Free State follow-on innings started with a 130-run opening partnership between de Kock and Lefa Mosena, who made a career-best 78.

The game in Benoni again started late due to the rain from day one with Easterns sending North West in to bat first. A career-best 65 not out from the diminutive Thando Bula and 58 from Juan le Roux helped North West to 238 for 9 declared. Israel Hlengane continued his form for Easterns taking 3 for 78. Easterns lost two early wickets in their first innings but had recovered to end the day on 69 for 3 when bad light stopped play early. Andre Seymore will continue on day three on 34 not out.

Day two of the game in Durban between KwaZulu-Natal and Easterns Province was again washed out with little prospect of play on day three.
