Cricket South Africa has managed to keep hold of Fran du Plessis, a promising young batsman, after Nottinghamshire had shown interest in signing him under the Kolpak ruling.

du Plessis, who plays for the Titans, would have followed a similar path to Kevin Pietersen, leaving South Africa behind and aiming to qualify for England.

"I thought about it a lot," du Plessis told the Sunday Times, "but in the end I decided to give it a full go in South Africa."

Vincent van der Bijl, CSA's head of professional cricket, was pleased not see a talented young player leave the country. "I'm delighted that Faf has decided to put his heart and soul into becoming a Proteas player."

A clutch of South Africans have headed into county cricket with Pietersen leading the way in terms of success. Nic Pothas, Jonathan Trott and Neil Carter are others who have formed solid careers with domestic teams.
