Gerald Majola, Cricket South Africa's chief executive, has sought to dismiss reports of a planned Twenty20 tri-series involving Australia, India and South Africa next year. This is contrary to what he told Cricinfo last week, when he mentioned the matches would be held in South Africa and Australia.

"There are no plans for a tri-nations series," Majola told SAPA. "I don't know where those reports came from - just look at our Future Tours Programme and tell me where you could fit in a tri-nations Twenty20 competition."

Majola had said last week that the tournament would be "somewhat similar to the Tri-Nations rugby series".

Earlier this week, he told South Africa's Sunday Times the proposal was for an IPL-style eight-team, franchise-based tournament and not one involving national sides. "The Indian board has agreed to make their players available, in the same way we have made ours available for their IPL," he said. "This will help as far as the big money is concerned." He also said that while finding dates for the tournament would be difficult, it would provide opportunities for a large number of South African domestic players.

South Africa already have a popular domestic Twenty20 competition, the Pro20 series, which was instituted in 2003-04.
